55+ CLUB
By Clana Jayne KeLLy
OBITUARIES
- James N. “Jim ” White -
The War Memorial
Building was the place
for the regular Wednes-
day, Oct. 23 meeting for
the 55+ Club. A good at-
tendance was had and the
meal was, as usual, very
good; in fact there were so
many desserts, John Dale
said everyone had to eat at
least three...I really think
some may have tried do-
ing that!
The main topic of
discussion was the meal
being planned for Nov. 6,
when the Club serves the
Veterans a special Veter-
ans Day meal. The RS-
VPs are coming in and we
are assuming a good num-
ber will be accepting our
invitation; there is still
plenty of time for a call to
reserve a seat on Wednes-
day, Nov. 6. Members are
looking forward to wel-
coming those who come.
Cards and remem-
brances were sent to Pat
Smith, in the death of
her son in Missouri; also,
Larry Profitt is adjust-
ing to chemo and radia-
tion treatments and David
Martin is having a diffi-
cult time with his illness.
It was good to have
a ‘tiny’ visit with Glenna
McLeod when she came
by to bring a guest book
for the veterans to sign
when they come as our
guests. Seems she and
Bill do lots of running
back and forth in trips
to Amarillo for various
needs; and if it is ‘physi-
cian’ calls, those always
seem to fall on Wednes-
day.
Ann Metcalf said
the upcoming J.O.Y. Hal-
loween Fun Night could
always use cookies, pies,
cakes and etc. for the cake
walk. If interested, con-
tact Ann or just take your
‘goodies’ out to the Ag
Barn around 5:30 Satur-
day.
The butterfly puzzle
was completed and was
glued together for a wall
hanging to be sent to Flois,
the mother of Darlene
Reed. Darlene says her
mother loves butterflies,
so this should be a beau-
tiful gift to her. A winter
scene puzzle was put out
Wednesday morning and
by 3 o’clock, it was fin-
ished! Those people work
fast, and Billie Williams
and Doris Hobbs stayed
with it until they finished.
May have to find a more
difficult one, so it will last
longer?
The Methodists’
fall dinner is to be held
soon and Tommy Roark
brought the quilt that
they plan to give away.
It is beautiful work done
by Frances Sinclair; and
tickets can be obtained by
checking with the Meth-
odist Church or see Tom-
my or Jony Thomas.
Marsha Thomas left
us with a good bit of wis-
dom: ‘tact is making a
point without making an
enemy.’ If you succeed in
doing this, not only you,
but others wifi be blessed.
James N. “Jim”
White, 82, of Amarillo
died Oct. 29, 2013.
Services wifi be at 2
p.m. Saturday at Lifeway
Fellowship Church, locat-
ed at 3315 Hancock, with
Ray Milhoan officiating.
Reception wifi be held in
the fellowship hall at Life-
way following burial ser-
vices at Llano Cemetery.
Mr. White was born
Aug. 19, 1931 in Ama-
rillo to Jesse B. and Zella
Garretson White. Jim
was a 1948 graduate of
Panhandle High School
and graduated from West
Texas with a BBA degree
in 1958.
He ran many busi-
nesses, managed many
properties and spent time
with his wife and friends
in Amarillo and New
Mexico. He raised a small
herd of cattle that were
known as “his babies”
and loved spending time
with his grandchildren.
He hosted the celebration
of his 65th high school re-
union in September, as he
has many times before.
He was preceded in
death by his son, Donald
(continued from page 1)
word,” he said.
Rep. Price told stu-
dents that the current
population of Texas is 26
million, which is 11 mil-
lion more Texans than
when he was born. Texas
is the best state in the
union to live. The popula-
tion is projected to double
by 2060. “If Texas alone
was a nation within itself,

cally the 14th largest na-
tion. Texas needs its stu-
dents to think forward to
the future and the career
opportunities are infinite”
he said.

School students were
given the opportunity
to ask questions of Rep.
Price. Their questions
ranged from school fund-

health care, tax relief and
compulsory voting.
