Musings From The
By Sharon Williams
The two exchange
students were just begin-
ning to wake up when
their host mom walked
into their rooms and told
them school had been can-
celled for the day because
there was two inches of
snow on the ground. They
both sat up and with con-
fused looks on their faces
asked her why. They both
jumped out of bed and
looked out the window.
“Wow!” Ruut, the girl
from Finland said. “Mom,
can I call my mom,” she
asked.
Before the host mom
could answer, Simone,
the girl from Switzerland,
asked if she could call her
mother, too.
After getting per-
mission Simone called
her mom and they had a
good laugh about it. Her
parents could not believe
their daughter was not go-
ing to school because of
two inches of snow. They
already had six feet of
snow on the ground.
Ruut said in amaze-
snow.”
When Ruut reached
her mom and told her
celled and why she and
her mother both laughed.
Her mom was surprised
because the day before
in Finland they had got-
ten eight feet of snow,
then another four feet that
to the bus stop three miles
away every day. School
was never cancelled in
that school had been can- either country. Both girls
ment, “I have waited all
my life to have school
cancelled because of
night and another four feet
were expected for the day.
Ruut rode her motor bike

either walked or rode bi-
cycles to the bus stop or to
school come rain or shine
or, if she could not get a
ride to the bus stop with
her parents, she walked.
They could not get over
the fact that we cancelled
school for so little snow.
Must admit, though, I
would rather have school
cancelled because of two
inches rather than eight
feet of the white stuff!
A little information
about houses in Finland,
almost all homes have
saunas and heated cement
floors. Walls are required
to be built 12 inches thick
and doors are made of
heavy wood six inches
thick and all open out. It
snows in Finland about
nine months of the year
and in some places is
on the ground for about
eleven months. Finland
also has over 1,000 lakes
and they raise reindeer for
meat like we raise cattle.
Seeds of Faith
Proper Attire
How do I look? Is the question most fre-
quently asked? Usually women are more
concerned about the clothes they wear.
Many times my wife will ask me if her dress
matches. Dressing properly or having the
right kind of clothes for the type of work we
do is very important.
Thinking about proper dress reminds me
of something in the Bible. Yes we are to
wear proper clothing or attire, both men
and women especially if the claim they are
Christians, (1 Timothy 2:9&10). But there is
another type of attire the Bible addresses
for Christians. It is partly our behavior but
more importantly it is our attitudes and what
is in our heart. God plainly says there are
things we are to get out of our lives and
things we are to put in. We are to put off
or not have immorality, impurity, sexual im-
morality, evil desires and greed, (Colossians
3:5). We are also to get rid of anger, wrath,
malice, slander, abusive speech and lying to
others, (Colossians 3:8&9). Christians are
to set their minds on things above not on
the things of the world, (Colossians 3:1&2).
Christians are to be different, God expects
that of us, (Romans 13:12-14). We may not
have the wherewithal to overcome these
things but being in Christ and with the pow-
er of the Holy Spirit, our helper we can get
victory,(John 14:16, Ephesians 4:24).
See you in Church next Sunday.
