Michael Anderson
Funeral services for Mi-
chael Lee Anderson, age 56,
of El Campo, will be held
at 11 a.m. today, Saturday,
March 2, 2013 at Mount Gil-
ead Baptist Church in Egypt
with Rev. R. Jackson officiat-
ing and Rev. R. Anderson as
eulogist. Burial will follow in
Sandridge Cemetery. Visita-
tion began after 1 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Anderson passed away
Feb. 26, 2013 at an Austin
hospital. He was born June
29,1956 in Wharton to Wayne
Tyler Jr. and Martha Martin.
Surviving are wife, Mary
Ann Allen Anderson of El
Campo; brothers, Donald Ray
Walter of Wharton, Tommy
Black and Darrel Black, both
of Eagle Lake; sister, Gizell
Martin of El Campo; with a
host of other relatives and
friends.
Services are under the di-
rection of Gooden-Hatton Fu-
neral Home, Inc.
Mable Clark
Funeral services for Mable
L. Clark, 92, of Bay City, will
be held at 11 a.m. today, Sat-
urday, March 2, at Kendleton
Church of God in Kendleton.
Burial to follow at Scott Cem-
etery in Kendleton. Visitation
and guest book registration
was held Friday from 2 to 8
p.m. at the funeral home cha-
pel.
Ms. Clark was born in
Wharton County on Oct. 20,
1920 to John Scott and Jera-
lean Wright Scott and passed
away Feb. 23, 2013 in Bay
City.
Survivors include six sis-
ters, L.V. Tisdale, Quvella
Harris, Mozelle Westbrook,
Dorothy Wiley and husband
R.A., Joyce Punch and hus-
band Rodney and Sheila
Gooden and husband Chris;
and one brother, Johnny Tay-
lor and wife Betty; a longtime
friend, Wesley Baker; and a
host of nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents and siblings,
Hortencia Scott, Chester
Scott, Elicias Scott and John
Scott Jr.

Selestino Garcia
Selestino Garcia, age 91, of
Katy, and formerly of Newgulf
and Wharton, died Monday,
Feb. 25, 2013 in a Katy hospi-
tal following a brief illness. He
was born on May 19, 1921 in
Bastrop, the son of Feliciano
Garcia and Lydia Torres Gar-
cia.
Mr. Garcia has been a
resident of Katy for the past
20 years and was a member
of St. Bartholomew Catholic
Church in Katy. He married
Paula DeLeon on Sept. 25,
1942 in Rosenberg.
He worked in the Mainte-
nance Department at Texas-
gulf Sulphur Company. He
enjoyed horses, cars, trucks
and rodeos.
He also enjoyed watching

gatherings.
Besides his parents, he
was also preceded in death by
a daughter, Herlinda Chavar-
ria; two sisters, Alfonsa Sa-
marripa and Juliana Vasquez;
a brother, Eugene Garcia; and
a great-grandson, Justin Del
Val.
A rosary was recited Friday
at Wharton Funeral Home
and a Funeral Mass will be
held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday,
March 2, 2013 at Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Catholic
Church with Rev. Gabriel Es-
pinosa officiating. Burial will
follow in Evergreen Memorial
Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Survivors include his wife,
Paula Garcia of Katy; daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Adeline
and Pete Luna of Katy, Anna
and Frank Ramirez of Whar-
ton, Lupe and Leo Garza of
League City, Dora and Joe
Mata of Houston, Molly Gar-
cia of Sugar Land and Betty
and Jesse Rodriguez of Whar-
ton; son, Rick Garcia of Katy;
three brothers, Santos Gar-
cia of Tomball, Charles Gar-
cia and Jesse Garcia, both of
Houston; 18 grandchildren,
27 great-grandchildren and
one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be his
grandsons.
Funeral services are under
the direction of Wharton Fu-
neral Home.
Mabel Kocurek
Mabel Bertha Kocurek, age
78, of Boling, died Tuesday,
Feb. 26,2013 in a Sugar Land
hospital following a brief ill-

6, 1934 in Orange Grove, the
daughter of the late Fritz De
Reese and Minnie Luedecke
De Reese.
Mrs. Kocurek had been a
resident of Boling for the past
45 years and moved around
the country with her husband
living in numerous states.
She was a graduate of Tide-
haven High School in 1951
and was a member of St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Whar-
ton. She married Albert Fred
Kocurek on April 10, 1953 in
Wharton.
She was preceded in death
by two daughters, Tina and
Kathy Kocurek; a brother, Le-
roy De Reese; and two sisters,
Elvera Chenault and Elsie
Cole.
Among her hobbies were
ceramics, sewing, embroidery,
dancing, especially Polka,
traveling, camping, fish-
ing, hunting and spending
time with her famity at Lake
Somerville.
Funeral services were held
at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28,
2013 at St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Wharton with Pas-
tor Laura Olson officiating.
Cremation Followed.
Survivors include her hus-
band, Albert Kocurek of Bol-
ing; daughters and son-in-law,
Rebecca and Bobby Sanders
of Brazoria and Lisa Kocu-
rek of Euless; sisters, Myrtle
Feldhausen of Blessing and
Ella Mae Cothron of West Co-
lumbia; grandchildren, Timo-
thy Kocurek, Mandy Colunga,
Markie McQueary and Bran-
don Haynes; and great-grand-
children, Ciera Colunga and
Jacob Colunga.
In lieu of usual remem-
brances the family requests
memorials to St. Paul Luther-
an Church, 325 N. East Ave.,
Wharton, TX 77488.

Margarita Rodriguez
Margarita Gaona Rodri-
guez, age 94, of Wharton, died
Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 in a
Wharton hospital following a
brief illness. She was born on
Feb. 22, 1919 in Rio Hondo,
the daughter of the late To-
ribio Gaona and Rita Rodri-
guez.
Mrs. Rodriguez was a resi-
dent of Wharton County most
of her fife and a member of Our
Lady of Mount Carmel Catho-
lic Church in Wharton. She
married Samuel Rodriguez
in October of 1940 in Whar-
ton County and he preceded
her in death in 1972; she was
also preceded in death by two
daughters, Rita Rodriguez on
June 24, 2009 and Charlene
Rodriguez in 1946.
A rosary was recited Thurs-
day at 7 p.m. at the chapel of
Wharton Funeral Home and
a Funeral Mass was held at
2 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013
at Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Catholic Church with Rev.
Gabriel Espinosa officiating.
Cremation followed.
Survivors include her
daughters, Eva Garcia and
Darlene Estrada, both of
Wharton, and Gloria Lopez
of Richmond; son, Manuel
Rodriguez of Wharton; sister,
Guadalupe Ramos of Whar-
ton; brother, Gumecindo Ga-
ona of Wharton; sons-in-law,
Pete Lopez of Richmond and
Alphonso Rodriguez of Hous-
ton and former sons-in-law
Natividad Garcia of Wharton
and Mike Perez of Palacios;
21 grandchildren, 44 great-
grandchildren and 21 great-
great-grandchildren.
