It’s here! It’s here!
October is finally
here. Many things are
happening around the
square, especially the
Monterey Square Wine
and Arts Fair next Sat-
urday, Oct. 12. More
about that at the end of
this column.
The name Tripu-
las Carpet will be no
longer. As was reported
to you previously in this
column, Kelly Boedeker
bought the building a few
months ago and has decided
to call his business “Around
the Square Floor Coverings.”
Come and visit with him.
Hell make you a great deal.
Debbie Cenko is always
getting into trouble! While
Kaytee and Debbie have been
redecorating K&D Design
(AKA Country Crafts and
Collectibles), Debbie decided
a nice fall from a ladder was
in order. Actually, she missed
the last step on a stool and
fell and sprained a knee. She
is in good shape and doing
well. Both ladies have been
hard at work painting, mov-
ing display cases, etc. You all
need to go by and see all the
cute things Kaytee has added
to their merchandise.
When you come down to
the coffee shop/bookstore on
Tuesdays, you will find the
Tuesday Morning Prayer
Shawl Ladies. They
knit and/or crochet
shawls for shut-ins,
people who have experi-
enced loss, sickness and
any life changing event
that needs prayer. On
any given Tuesday, you
will find 20 to 30 wom-
en gathered together to
help others.
Did you know that
there is someone mov-
ing in upstairs at the
Sol’s Menswear build-
ing? John Alaniz and his Wolf
Pak Radio will soon be broad-
casting on the internet from
downtown Wharton. The
internet radio plays conjunto
and Tejano music. Look for
more information in future
publications of the Wharton
Journal-Spectator.
And now for all the low
down on the Wine Fair, which
will be held Saturday, Oct. 12
from 4 to 10 p.m. in down-

WOC honors Harrison in naming dental hygiene clinic
More than 100 people recently attended a naming ceremony held at Wharton County Junior College
to dedicate the Dr. Anna T. Harrison Dental Hygiene Clinic. Harrison was instrumental in helping the
college to establish its dental hygiene program in 1969. She served as the sole faculty member for the
program until 1973. Pictured at the event are members of the first graduating class of 1971, from left,
Rebecca (BeJo) Gadeke, Alice Manning, Mary Anne Harmer, Gwen Williams, Alice Faye Christopher-
son, Penny Amon and Linda Turk Parks, the first dental hygiene instructor hired after Harrison.
— Spenrath: County networks with others
Continued from Page A2
My fellow citizens, it is imperative that
your elected officials continue to reach out
and share our decisions, plans and ideas with
local taxpayers, their communities, neighbor-
ing counties and state officials. By sharing
information and forging stronger working
relationships, we can better strengthen public
understanding, public trust and countywide
unity.
As your county judge, my primary objective
continues to be preparing Wharton County
for the future while always maintaining our
unique small-town way of life.
Phillip Spenrath is the county judge of
Wharton County. His column appears on
the first Saturday of each month. He can he
reached at judge.spenrath@co.wharton.tx.us.
