MRS. JUDY WOMACK, who
teaches Basic English 41, also at-
tended North Texas State where
she received a BA and MA de-
gree. Last year Mrs. Womack
taught at Levelland High School.
During the 1962-63 term, she
taught at S. S. Conner Junior
High in Dallas. Besides teaching
Sfronts ..
“I feel that I have the best crop
of sophomores as a group in many
years,” comments golf Coach Jer-
ry Fairly.
THE GOLF team is working out
at Meadowbrook golf course every
day and will have matches against
Monterey every Friday until Feb-
ruary. Carl Pounds, senior, who
gained much experience this sum-
mer, will be one of the top link-
sters.
Working hard to gain a berth
on the varsity are Carl Kirk, Dav-
id Cochran, Bobby McCarty, Jer-
ry Trammel, John Carpenter,
Richard Reed, Don Telford and
sophomores Brad Robertson and
Ronnie McFarland.

FOUR RETURNING lettermen
and several juniors from last
year’s Cowhands will make up the
1964-65 Westerner basketball team,
currently limited to seventh period
workouts until Nov. 1 due to In-
terscholastic League rules.
At present the Westerners and
Cowhands are working on condi-
tioning, running, calisthenics and
jumping rope.
"OUR SUCCESS this year de-
pends a lot on how hard the boys
are willing to work and their de-
termination to have a good team,”
commented Coach Max O’Banion.
"We have a lot to accomplish be-
fore our first game Nov. 21.”

EIGHTEEN BOYS and 12 girls
have reported for tennis workouts.
Coach J. E. Burgess indicated
earlier this week that Cindy Hale
will probably be the top girls’
singles performer while Sally
Brightwell and Gwynne Under-
wood will make up the best girls
doubles team.
All three lettered last year and
have been playing all summer.
Joe Malley is the only returning
boy letterman.
"WE HAVE a good running pro-
gram this year,” remarked Coach
Burgess, "and if we can’t beat
them, at least we can out run
them.”
English, Mrs. Womack has also
taught American history.
Mr. Claud Chappel, who teach-
es world history, graduated from
Texas Western with a PE major
and science minor. Coach Chap-
pel, the defensive line coach on
the varsity, taught boys’ PE at
Alderson the last three years and
previously taught three years at
Matthews.
ANOTHER NEW coach, Jack
Fry, teaches general science. He
is h graduate of Stephen F. Aus-
tin College and has taught general
science and biology at Henderson
High School in Henderson, Texas.
The Cowhand Coach majored in
PE and minored in biology. Also
coaching the ‘B’ team is Eldon
Hawley, new American history
teacher. Coach Hawley graduated
from Arkansas State Teachers
College, but attained his master’s
degree at Tech where he was a
student coach. He was also an as-
sistant coach at New Mexico Mili-
tary Institute.
Speech and debate instructor is
Mrs. Mayme Porter. Mrs. Porter
is a Texas Women’s University
graduate. She has taught soph-
omore and senior English at Ar-
lington Heights High School in
Fort Worth. She has also taught
speech in junior high school.
NORTH TEXAS Universiay grad-
uate, Mrs. Burnie Henderson,
teaches girls’ PE and biology. She
majored in PE and minored in
education and science. Mrs. Hen-
derson taught PE and health at
Levelland High School before
coming to LHS.
New typing teacher, Mrs. Glen-
da Rawls, has been a substitute
teacher in Lubbock Public schools
for several years. She graduated
from Texas Tech with a business
education major.
BEGINNING HER first year as
a homemaking teacher, Mrs. Vicki
Davis attended East Texas State
University where she graduated
with a homemaking major. She
is teaching Homemaking 12-22.

Meeting Time For Clubs
Set On Off-School Basis
Meeting off school time this year for the first time in several years
due to the lack of space, LHS clubs will begin their yearly activities
Monday by putting up membership drive posters throughout the school.
This project will continue through Sept. 20.
BEGINNING Sept. 21 with TTF clubs, groups will start their or-
ganizational meetings which will last through Sept. 30. On Oct. 1
the first regular TTF meetings will be conducted. MWF clubs will
begin meeting the following week.
According to Mr. Knox Williams, SC director, there are 28 clubs
being organized. These clubs and their meeting times are as follows:
