NEW VOTING
MACHINES APPROVED
(Cont. from page 1)
will allow election costs to be re-
duced and still pay for the equip-
ment. If the County purchase the
machines, they can be rented on
a per diem basis to the political
parties, the cities, the school
districts or anyone else holding
elections.
Quicker returns more accurate
counting, greater ballot security
are some of the advantages of the
new machines. The ease of trans-
porting the small (approximately
6 lbs) is a great advantage over
the lever type machine. The
simplicity of the design elimina-
tes the need for trained techni-
cians and mechanics to be avail-
able on election day.
On page 4 and 5 of this issue
the new machines are discussed
in greater detail. The Pine Nee-
dle will have more to say on this
subject as we feel this is an e-
lection reform that should be a-
dopted by Hardin County.

din County. The District Court
has set a hearing on the suit at
9:00 a. m. on December 20,1967.
The hearing is set upon a request
of the plaintiffs that Ea$tex Wild-
life employees be enjoined from
interfering and arresting persons
upon the public roads traveling
through the lands in dispute and
from interfering with and arrest-
ing persons upon the banks and
sandbars of the Neches River from
Sheffield Fery bridge in Tyler
County to the Evadale River brid^p
in Hardin County.
Individual plaintiffs, who are
joined in the suit against Eastex
Wildlife include persons from
Spurger, Fred, Caney Head, and
Silsbee. Eastex Wildlife Associa-
tion claims the exclusive hunting,
fishing, and camping rights on
the lands involved because of a-
greements with the land compa-
nies.
LIONS LOSE SEMI-
FINALS
(Cont. from page 1)
oringhis36th touchdown to break
hisown record of 35 set against
Del Valle the week before.
The Randolph victory kept the
Ro-Hawks undefeated for the sea-
son. Kountze has a 11-2-1 mark.
Although the key to the victory
for Randolph was ball control -
with the Ro-Hawks running 76
plays to the Lion’s 42, Kountze
was in contention until late in
the final quarter. Randolph scor-
ed first but failed on a 2 point
conversion attempt. Gilder, six
plays later, broke over tackle to
make a 49 yard run for Kountze’s
score. The Lions made the point
after to go ahead 7-6.
This lead held up until late in
the third quarter although Ran-
dolph controlled the ball, a fum-
ble by Gilder on the 9 yard line
was recovered by the Hawks. Four
plays later the Hawks scored and
thenmadeatwo point conversion
to lead 14-7.
Kountze was unable to shake
Gilder loose as he was covered
by three and four men on each
play.
The strong wind and the bitter
cold contributed to the jitters
that affected both teams through
out much of the game.

VILLAGE CREEK PHILOSOPHER
(Continued from page 3)
been and which I knew all along,
but I forgot to add that I have ta-
ken a poll myself, mostly by wr-
acking my brain, among the
governments of the world and can
report that money is their biggest
problem too. You name me a
single government, local, state
or national, anywhere in the world
which isn't scraping the bottom of
the barrel and looking out the cr-
acks in the staves to find more
money.
I didn't know how serious this
was until I picked up a copy of a
newspaper the other day and read
that the British government had
asked for a billion-do liar emer-
gency loan from the International
Monetary Fund to stave off bank-
ruptcy. Came right out and said
it was on the verge of ruin.
I don’t know anything about the
International Monetary Fund, if it
makes emergency loans to indi-
viduals please send me the address,
I’d qualify, but what I got to
thinking about is, what happens
when a country goes bankrupt?
Who re-possesses it. What do
they do with it?
I know what a bank does when
it has to foreclose on a farm, but
what can you do with an entire
country?
Furthermore, say England, de-
spite its loans which for our part
will have to be secured by a se-
cond lien or is it a third, still
doesn't make it, goes broke, and
its assets are put up for sale to
pay off the creditors. Who’s in the
market for a busted country? The
way countries are going nowadays,
I can't think of many that could
be called a sound financial invest-
ment.
I’ll tell you, I don’t think Eng-
land is going under, but the mere
idea of a country taking bankrupt-
cy certainly gives a man some-
thing to speculate about.
I can see the advertisement the
creditors would run in the news-
papers of the world, including
The Pine Needle in order to get
complete coverage: "For Sale At
Public Auction to the highest bid-
der, the British Isles, entire con-
tents to go, including the fixtures,
such as Dukes, Earls, all sorts of
Lords and other items too numer-
ous to mention. Terms cash. "
It’s that last stipulation that’s
going to hamper the sale.
