LIONS LOSE
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1964
The Kountze Lions lost to the
Woodville Eagles 20-8 in their
homecoming game Saturday
night. The Woodville defense
stymied the Kountze ground
game as they seemed to know
what was coming up. They
were a good persuit team as
they turned most of Kountze's
end sweeps back into the mid-
dle of the line. The Lions did
play a good third quarter as
they cut Woodvilles lead to 4
points as the quarter ended 12-
8.
Woodville scored quickly in
the first quarter with Ken
Weaver running the kickoff back
to his own 44. Weaver then
passed to Charles Blanks for
the touchdown. The try for
the point after was missed.
Woodville again scored after
recovering a kickoff fumble.
Larry Kelly then ran around
left end for 30 yards and another
six-pointer. Again the PAT
missed.
Woodville's last tally came in
the third quarter after moving
the ball to the Kountze five
yard line in two plays. Kelly
then ran the ball up the mid-
dle for the touchdown. He then
climaxed the Eagle scoring with
a two-point PAT run.
Kounize's only mark came
late in the third quarter. After
receiving a punt the Lions re-
turned the ball tb the Woodville
37.
James Merrill then ran the
ball to the 11. With nine seconds
left in the third quarter Ken
Willis passed to Joe Rodriguez
for the score. A Wills pass to
Rodriguez for the two point
was successful.
