The run-
ning of halfback Mickey Atta-
way and the passing combina-
tion of John Verde and Wayne
Weaver paced the Hardin-Jef-
ferson Rebels of Sour Lake to a
26-0 victory over Kountze’s Lions
here Friday night.
Attaway scored two touch-
downs and quarterback Verde
hit Rebel end Weaver for two
more to account for the Hardin-
Jefferson scoring.
The visiting Rebels scored
with 2:58 remaining in the
first quarter on a four-yard
plunge by Attaway. Then en-
tire first period was played in
Kountze territory.
Attaway added six more
points with 1:21 left in the half
on a five yard run. The Verde-
Weaver combo added two ex-
tra points.
Thirty-one seconds before the
half ended, Verde again passed
to Weaver for a 52-yard touch-
down, making he score 20-0 at
halftime.
A Kountze fumble set up the!
next Rebel score. The Lions
hobbled the ball on their own
12 and Hardin-Jefferson recov-
ered. Four plays later Verde
passed to Weaver for a 19-yard
touchdown, which ended the
game scoring.
Kountze’s only threat came
late in the final period after
a Hardin-Jefferson punt went
sour. The Lions took posses-
sion on the Rebel 26 and made
it to the 7 before the drive
was halted.
