The jeep-like vehicle that struck a
woman on the beach over the
Fourth of July holiday was appar-
ently blue, Precinct 7 Constable
DeeWayne Mathews said.
Lea Ann Strott,32,of Pasadena is
in fair condition after the Friday,
July 5, accident which left her with
multiple fractures. She is in a pri-
vate room at Memorial Medical
Center in Corpus Christi.
Mathews said the Department of
Public Safety volunteered assist-
ance in the case “from the begin-
ning”. Precinct 4 Commissioner J.P.
Luby has asked State Atty. Gen. Jim
Mattox to intervene because of his
concern for open beaches. Mathews,
however, has had no contact with
the attorney general’s office.
Deputy Constables Jim Sigler and
Dean Billbe are conducting the
investigation. They had been to San
Antonio to interview the seven wit-
nesses to the accident. Mathews
said no new information was ob-
tained, however, except the deter-
mination that the vehicle was blue.
Whether it was metalic blue or
royal blue is undetermined. Six of
the witnesses are in the military
stationed in San Antonio and one is
a civilian employee at a military
installation there.
Locally, Mathews said license
plate checks are being run on all the
jeep-like vehicles that were record-
ed as being in the area at the time of
the accident.
Mathews also said that Crimes-
toppers is cooperating. A re-enact-
ment of the accident will be airing
on area television stations begin-
ning this week.
Hamburgers, nachos, fried shrimp,
fish, crab and shrimp salad and fro-
zen drinks are among the most
popular items at the Quarter Deck
Seafood Bar.
