Construction delays

Vehicles wait for a ferryboat to unload its passengers before boarding to
cross the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. Wait times to cross the channel
have increased recently with the repairs being done to the ramps on Harbor
Island. More construction is forthcoming.
Repairs, landscaping mean
longer wait time for ferries
By Beki Desopo
South Jetty reporter
A longer wait in line for the ferry is not
a recurrence of years past, hut a two-week
inconvenience, followed by a three-month
project.
Two Harbor Island ramps were closed
on Monday and Tuesday lor pile repairs,
according to Frances Garza, Texas Depart-
ment of Transportation public information
officer.
Ramp one, locstcd next to tHe J. Rny
McDermott fabrication yard, will stay
closed for approximately two weeks to com-
plete the project.
Long lines also were linked to three boats
being out of service. But four ferryboats
are operational now, as are the four ramps
on the Port Aransas side of the landing.
In addition to the landing repairs, a con-
struction project on Harbor Island is ex-
pected to slow traffic.
Expect barricades, traffic control and
cones on Harbor Island for the next three
months, Garza said.
They are all part of a construction
project intended to beautify the Melvin O.
Littleton Ferry Landing.
“Drivers are cautioned to use special care
and to observe these warning devices as they
travel through the work area, Crarza said.
Four Seasons Contracting, LLC. is the
firm hired for the $277,408 project. It con-
sists of landscape development at the park-
ing lot and the ferry landing area.
The project is being coordinated and moni-
tored through the TxDOT office of Corpus
Christi Area Engineer Martin Horst.

seek re-election.
“For the first year, you don’t know what
you’re doing. You need to have at least two
terms, if possible,” Krauskopf said.
Place 6, held by Tim Templeton, who
was appointed to replace Karen Frank,
who resigned, will also be on the ballot.
Templeton could not be reached to learn
if he plans to seek election to the posi-

is one year.
Additional work commitments for Ameri-

Skewis caused him to resign. The additional
