Two seventh grade Marlins scored in
a 36-10 loss to Woodsboro on Jan. 16.
Michael Prewitt scored the ma-
jority of the points with eight. Cody
Collins followed with two.
No points were scored in the lirst
quarter by the Marlins and only two
were allowed in the first half.
Woodsboro scored 12 for the half.
Eight points were split between
the third and fourth quarters, with
Woodsboro managing 24.
Cody Redman had five rebounds
for the game. Blake Harty grabbed
three while Collins, Prewitt and Eric
Clanton had two apiece.

Two games, two endings
for Port Aransas varsity

Dallas Faith Academy upset the
Port Aransas Marlins at home on
Jan. 19.
“We played two excellent quarters
against Dallas, hut we were not able
to finish,” Coach Jim Reid said. “We
are still on the way hack up.”
Dallas defeated Port Aransas 86-
64.
Two Marlins scored in double dig-
its. Winston Caraker led the team
with 17 points.
Danny Peterson added 12 to the
score.
Others with points were: Chris
Stimson, nine; Donovan Kypke, six;
Jordan Johnson, nine; Alex Young,
one; Erik Hamilton, two; Andy
Magness, four; and Alex Porter; four.
Port Aransas 91, Goodrich 71
The Marlins played like the Mar-
lins play. They overcame some tough
losses and got hack on track with
the 91-71 win over (ioodrich on Jan.
18.
“We played three fantastic quar-
ters against Goodrich," Reid said.
“We overcame at 29-4 deficit in the
second quarter and won with a run
of 87-42."
Johnson could not he denied
points. He shot for an incredible 33
points. Caraker followed with his
own high marks, shooting for 25
points. Young got into the double
digits with 1 1 points.
Others scoring were: Stimson,
four; Peterson, two; Kypke, eight;
and Porter, eight.
“We were down, hut we finally
decided to play the way we can. It
has been a long journey and war to
get back to our abilities, hut we are
almost there,” Reid said.

finish the game with the needed win. Boys’ district games begin Friday against Pettus.

on jan. 16
Following the Jan. 16 loss to
Woodsboro, the eighth grade Mar-
lins rebounded for a win over tour-
nament host Austwell Tivoli on |an.
18.
They began strong and kept the
momentum throughout the win.
The Marlins led 12-2 after the first
eight minutes. Then they started
their engines. Port Aransas shoot-
ers went on a 19-2 run to finish the
first half.
They allowed 1 3 second-half
points, hut scored 20, sealing the
win.
Colby Witt led the Marlins with
15 points. Matt Dunton followed
with eight while Sam Burt did as well.
Others shooting were Charley
Walker, four points; Troy Ashley,
four; and Gary Crunk, two.
Game two was not as nice. The
Marlins lost to Woodsboro 40-23 to
end the tournament one and one.

Woodsboro has not been kind to
the Port Aransas Marlins. The
eighth graders lost 42-26 on Jan. 16.
Woodsboro opened with a 7-3
first-quarter run. Port Aransas
closed the gap slightly ending the
half down 16-9.
Woodsboro shooters were able to
get 13 points per period for the re-
mainder of the game while t he Mar-
lins managed 17 for the half.
Colby Witt led the Marlins with
10 points. Sam Burt followed with
six. Gary Crunk shot for five points.
Matt Dunton had four for the night
and Matt Brunicardi, one.
