creased to G329S07 lie then said
We nre rapidly drifting to the age
of tlie eternal feminine when man will
be a back number and forced to return
to the soil and to those lields of labor
where only his physical strength will
save him in the struggle for survival

WashingtonWanamaker Incident
The press of the south still echoes
with the pros and cons of the alleged
indiscretion of President Booker T
Washington of the negro school at
Tuskegee In dining with the family of
John Wnuamakcr at Saratoga Mr
Washington himself was compelled to
tako notice of various false reports
by stating that he
dined with Mr
Wauaraakcr and
members of the
family at a hotel
on Invitation for
the purpose of talk
ing business but
that he Washing-
ton was staying at
a colored hotel at
the time In for
meryears Mr Washington bad repeat-
edly stopped at the hotel where Mr
Wanamaker was without comment be-
ing made He concludes with this ex-
planation of his attitude toward exist-
ing sectional customs
When In the south I conform like
all colored people to the customs of
the south but when In the north I
have found It necessary during the
last twenty years as stated in my
book Dp From Slavery to come into
contact with white people In the fur-
therance of my work in ways I do not
