THE PALESTINE DAILY HERALD
Bntered in the Palestine Texas Postofflce at BecondOlass Mall Matter
Published Every Afternoon Sunday Excepted
W M AND H V HAMILTON JE
The pay car has delivered the
goods here today We all feel better
after the coin has been turned loose
June is certainly a dry month Not
a slmel so far The 19th was rarely
ever known to fail to get a rain
Heres hoping again
The boll weevil is doing business in
this section again but the farmer is
up and after him and we have noticed
that the farmer when he gets mad
usually wins the fight
Full compliance with contracts is
the demand of the people of this city
and it is a reasonable and just de-
mand If it is enforced there will be
no ground for complaint
President Roosevelt used to talk
about good trusts and bad trusts but
he seems to have poor luck In finding
the good ones and should begin to be-
lieve with the rest of us that there are
no good trusts
Good reports come from all sections
of the county concerning crops If
old Anderson comes across the line
this year with big crops as the pros-
pects now promise her people will
dwell in luxury for a season or so
If congress should decide to let in
free of duty all building materials in-
tended for San Francisco remarks the
Springfield Republican what a shock-
ing confession it would be that the tar-
iff is a tax and that the home builder
and the home consumer pay it
< i i i
An exchange is surprised that the
Liquor Dealers National Association
in its recent meeting in which it en-
deavored to get so good did not pass
a resolution compelling bar keepers to
open business with prayer every morn-
ing The people are not so easily Jol-
lied as to believe half of the liquor
dealers pretenses to goodness
Mr Campbell in making his cam-
paign for the governorship insists on
discussing issues and has persistently
refused to engage In personalities
This is displeasing to some of his
enemies who have tried to draw him
out The people are coming to under-
stand Mr Campbell in this matter
He is a statesman who believes there
are issues to be settled in Texas and
to which he Is giving his undivided
attention
The demand for free alcohol free
cement and structural steel free
hides free coal free wool free wood
pulp etc Is worrying the standpat
Republicans no little Senator Aid
rich and Speaker Cannon are getting
nervous The clamor for legislation
on tariff schedules is distressing them
They will either get off their perch or
be knocked off and they are puzzling
their brains to find out which they
had rather do
The Republicans unanimously re-
fuse to allow the bill Introduced by
Mr Williams the Democratic leader
in congress to be reported to reduce
the tariff rates that are over 100 per-
cent Who will now say that the
trusts that are thus protected by the
tariff tax of over 100 per cent on their
products are not more powerful with
these Republican congressmen than
their tariff plundered constituents
That Is what these standpatters call
letting well enough alone
That meeting of the president and
Senator Aldrich after the passage of
the rate 1111 Indicates they are quite
friendly Yet as a prominent mem-
ber of the administration recently re-
marked with chagrin that even If the
Allison amendment as he maintained
did not provide broad review It was
equally a fact and a more important
political fact that the prevailing pub-
lic opinion was that the amendment
did provide broad review and that the
president had been beaten
It Is wonderful to what extremes
people will go in an argument to se-
cure what they desire In a Texas
city a few days ago the argument was
made that If the saloons were allowed
to do business Sundays fewer people
would go away from the city to spend
Sundays Now wouldnt that jar you

It Is for a soul that confession is

the beef trust had to be caught in the
act
If members of the house will leave
their hats on their desks It will ma-
terially help the speaker in counting
a quorum
A Chicago girl succeeded In throw-
ing a baseball 204 feet and that is
throwing some when you think of
Chicago feet
The watch trust is distributing a
dividend of 175 per cent which is
one of the results of selling abroad
cheaper than at home
John Sharp Williams Has named the
new 10000000 battleship proposed
the Skeeredo Nothln and we guess
that will be about enough
The latest embalmed beef scandal
has come along just In time to give
the Reading railroad officials a chance
to wash their hands and put on an in-
nocent look
From the evident haste In which
Deacon Baer denied he ever said the
Reading Is honest he must have no-
ticed somebody getting ready to call
him a liar
In other words the Senate Commit-
tee on Privileges and Elections was
of the opinion that Mr Smoot should
be declared out and Mr Burton
should be fired out
Dallas News No city is offering

The Arkansas Republican state con
vention met In Little Rock the other

will be news to people who had no
Idea there were so many Republicans
in Arkansas
K H Hobson of Washington D C
who won a 1000 automobile on a five
cent ticket had better luck than the
Alabama Hobson who spent 0000 and
only drew a seat in congress
When a member of congress is
granted an indefinite leave of absence
on account of Important business
are we to Infer that the business for
which the government pays him a sal-
ary Is considered unimportant
I suggest that an innocent by-
stander be appointed to search us for

at the first meeting of the rate bill
conferees You will notice he made
no mention of shortbarreled pitch-
forks

sickness but spring languor loss of
appetite headaches sleeplessness and
backaches weakness debility indiges-
tion and other Ills that result from
indigestion or an overworked stom-
ach are more common than they have
been for some years past
This has resulted in an unusual de-
mand for Miona stomach tablets at
the Bratton Drug Co Before they felt
that they could recommend this rem-
edy they tested It rigidly In many
aceses of heartburn indigestion wind
on the stomach debility and other
troubles that result from a weakened
digestion with the greatest success
In fact Mlona has been so uniform-
ly successful in curing ail stomach
