People Who Came Out to Take Up
Residence at New Chicago Are
Hurrying Back to Old Homes
The local ticket agent of the I G
N railroad announces that last night
lie sold something more than 200
worth of tickets to people who claim-
ed they came here to take up their
residence at the proposed new town of
New Chicago They had got enough
These people have been tented in
the woods down there and the bad
weather convinced them Texas did not
have all sunshine days that a little
rain w6uld come now and then And
then too they were not prepared for
the cold weather Tent life was not
satisfying to them Also some of
them claimed that employment was
promised which promise was not ful-
filled
At any rate they are going back
and the population of New Chicago
is less than it was a few days ago
Strong Attraction to Be Put On

A PHYSICIANS DIAGNOSIS OF
KIDNEY TROUBLE
A Seemingly Common Disease
which Becomes Fatal through
Neglect and which May Be
Readily Cured by Prompt At
tention
More than twothirds of the annual
death rate physicians claim is directly
traceable to kidney disorders
Interested by this remarkable asser-
tion and desiring to acquire a better un-
derstanding of the origin of the disease
a prominent physician was recently in
temewecl as to the symptoms of such
troubles

ITS EFFECT ON THE HEART
In whatTvay is the heart affected from
kidney trouble
In all cases the heart is disturbed
though in many instances the palpita-

disease has advanced to a serious point
A severe heart throbbing and nervous

HOW TO CURE IT
What is the proper course of treat-
ment for kidney disease
First to get rid of uric acid and other
poisons in the system Thiscanbedbne
by stimulating the bladder and bowels
so that they will act more freely The
suffering kidneys must be strengthened
the liver and stomach toned up and the
digestion improved
Prickly Ash Bitters is a remedy that
answers these requirements completely
It is not only a system tonic and regu-
lator but its healing and restorative in-
fluence will build up the weakened kid-
neys and urge them to a better perform-
ance of their duties It gives strength
and tone to the liver stomach and heart
and promotes harmony of action through-
out the body
M TV Burr village blacksmith and respected
citizen of Starks Ia says I was troubled with
kidney and lira disorder for IS years I was ia
continual misery until I began taking Prickly
Ash Bitters which has entirely cured me and I
am now a strong healthy and hearty man I

Uncle Josh Jenkins Coming
A press notice says
The Wizard of Oz and the famous
adventures of The Scare Crow and
The Merry Tin Woodman through
the wonderous Land of Nod are
tales familiar to all of us big and
little Who among us has not followed
them in their merry mythical wander-
ings The Scare Crow and The
Merry Tin Woodman have both
been bi ought to real life in famous
stage impersonations that are start-
ling and real In the rural play Uncle
Josh Jenkins which comes to the
Temple Theatre Wednesday Novem-
ber 24 there is a young man Mr
Clyde Long whose stage portrayal and
character makeup of The Scare-
Crow is said to be a little short of
marvelous Critics pronounce it as
being a stage creation beyond com-
parison one that must be seen to be
appreciated In scare crow language
he is described as being a person with
a stuffy tired feeling at times a little
shaky on his pins Some people take
him for a man of straw but he doesnt
care a straw for that and his wonder
ous broad smile is a sight to behold
The scare crow dance as done by Mr
Long is one of the hits of the show
The Lewis Trio
The management sajs
The Lyric had good crowds at both
their matinee and night performances
yesterday notwithstanding the nu-
merous other attractions in the city
Reed and Earl vaudeville team
closed their engagement last night
with a rattling good comedy sketch
Their singing and dancing made a big
hit with Lyric patrons
Oneof Edisons latest productions
entitled Laddie was the feature
film In motion pictures This is
story full of heart interest and with
the appropriate musical accompani
ment rendered by Trieces Orchestra
made a lasting impression with the
audience
The Lyric will open tonight with
the Lewis Trio in a highclass comedy
act and the motion pictures will be
some of the best that can be secured

To Come High According to Chicago
Commission Men The Supply
Is Limited
Herald Special
Chicago Nov IS According to the
South Water street commission men
the Thanksgiving turkey is likely to
be an expensive bird this year The
supply it is said is smaller than last
year and so the housewife will prob
ably be compelled to pay from 25 to
30 cents a pouud for her purchase
And what makes the situation even
worse for her is that the supply of
ducks and chickens is also short and
prices have gone up in proportion It
is some consolation to know however
that there may be plenty of cranberry
sauce for cranberries aie more plen-
tiful and cheaper than in many years
Turkeys this season appear to have
matured slowly and consequently the
supply of full grown birds is consid-
erably less than last year Then too
many of the growers hold back for
the higher prices that may be realized
during the Christmas holidays Michi-
gan is about the only state in this sec-
tion that reports the turkey crop this
year to be up to the average Illinois
Iowa Wisconsin and Missouri expect
short crops The indications are that
the most of the turkeys this year will
come from Texas Arkansas and other
sections of the southwest
PIERCE TALKS BITTERLY OF FINE
Says European Capital Is Kept Away
From America By Such Acts
New York Nov 16 Henry Clay
Pierce of St Louis and New York and
his bride who was Mrs Virginia
Prickett Burrows whose father was
Major William Russell Prickett of
Evansville HI and her daughter Miss
Virginia Bunows returned from their
honeymoon trip to Europe today on
the Kaiser Wilhelra II They were
married in London August 2 and then
went on a trip through England
France Switzerland Italy and Spain
They traveled siv thousand miles and
had one accident
Mr Pierce spoke bitterly of the fin
ing of the Waters Pierce Oil company
by the state of Texas of 1S30000
My company paid this fine said
Mr Pierce expecting that its prop
erty would be leturned Instead of
this the state of Texas has confiscated
the property of the Waters Pierce Oil
company and a leceiver has been or
dered appointed preparatory to Ahs
sale pf the propertysV fi

that have taken place recently do
moie to retard the investment of Eu-
ropean capital in American securities
than any panic or ordinary depression
in business
The Waters Pierre Oil company
did business under file federal laws
and under the laws of the state of
Texas Europeans aie quick to note
that each of our states has individual
laws can btep in and confiscate prop-
erty apparently without any redress
on the part of the corporation affect-
ed
Mr Pierce declined to discuss the
possibility of the Waters Pierce Oil
company buying in its property but it
was inferred fiom what he said that a
long litigation will ensue He also
spoke of the law in Texas which pro
vides for part of the fines in cases like
that of the Waters Pierce company go-
ing to the prosecutors
Texas he said holds our prop-
erty by might rather than right I am
going to Texas next week to look over
the situation Why it is nothing less
than absolute confiscation of property
In Missouri the company was fined
50000 and when the fine was paid
the state was entitrely satisfied and
we are in good standing
