According to a call issued some-
time ago by a committee of farmers
a mass meeting of farmers will be-
held in this city tomorrow afternoon
at 1 oclock to devise some means of
putting a stop to Sunday hunting in
this county especially near the
homes and churches of the rural pop-
ulation Complaint is made that the
practice has become quite a nuisance
and the farmers are determined to
stop it They will use pacific meth-
ods if possible but if not they will
resort to the law It is hoped by
those calling the meeting to have a
full attendance

Leyden Colo Dec 1G A party of
rescuers headed by Prof J C Rob-
erts of the government miners rescue
bureau equipped with oxygen hel-
mets today began exploring the
twenty miles of the workings in the
south half of the Leyden coal mine to
find the ten miners entombed there
The rescuers are compelled to push
their way through clouds of deadly
afterdamp which fill the interior of
the workings It is believed the men
are still alive The cause of the fire
in the mine is still unknown

gest oil and gas deal in the history
of the world including much Texas

Barsdall the oil and gas king with
headquartqrs in Pittsburg is now on
his way across the Atlantic to Paris
to close a deal for all his oil and
gas holding for f 12000000 The hold-
ings include lands in Texas Louisi-
ana California Kansas Oklahoma
and other states in the west and east
The Paris banking syndicate has had
an option on this property for months
and the option closes January first
but Mr Barsdall has been cabled to
come toParis at once and close the
deal J M Griffith Mr Barsdalls
business partner has been in Paris
for some weeks handling the deal
It is understood that Mr Barsdall
will on turning over this property
retire permanently from the oil and
gas business This is one of the
conditions of the deal Six months
ago Mr Barsdall entertained six Paris
bankers taking them all over the en-
tire country The bankers put up
150000 as option on the great prop-
