WAR CHEST HEAD SAYS
WAR -SOT OVER YET’
Austin A warning uga.iv I any .et-

by Juti/e 11? n tl Pi;well. president of
the United Ww Chc .t o! Texas
“The war wi!! n >t he o/er .in .i every
American. u.on». i hi. in-t-n brougnt
home." Judgv i# well warned Texans
“Until that linv tunes, none c,f u* on

“Above all, we should remember that
‘cease Ur Ins' doe. not mean cease giv-
ing. Even if Oennany should surren-
dtr. we stih ha ,’e the J;iji to heat, and
we must ronUmie fu.. . upp-rt cl our
fighting men and our Allies. Tills
mean, that this year, mare than ever
before, we must support the. war-re-
1. ted agencies of tie* National War
Fund."
The war ch >t president called at-
tention to recent announcement by
army officials that many troops will be
moved from Europe to the Pacific after
Germany quits the war.
“Germany’s surrender will net mean
the end erf the -war," he declared. “Mil-
lions of American soldiers. sailors and
marines still will fight on against the
Japanese. The secretary of war has
predicted 'a long, hard war’ in the Pa-
r.na
[• high military oftlelsUi
plain that they expect
war to last at least
nd per hap. even longer
With this 1' ng, bitter, struggle
ahead of us, we must do everything in
our jxvwer to back up our men on the
firing line!"
Judge P.well also called attention to
j the fact that even the end of the war
with Germany would not automatically
free all Americans being held in Euro-
pean prisoner-of-war camps.
“Our men in enemy camps may not
' be freed for months after the peace is
igr.ed." tie declared. “Experience in
I the last war showed us that exchange
of p: issuer often extends over a long
period. A:.cl during that period, we
certainly must continue the full ser-
vices of War Prisoners Aid. the Na-
tional War Fund agency which sends
books, athletic equipment, study
courses and many other supplies to our
men behind enemy barbed wire.
“We know, too, that our troops in
Europe cannot be returned for many
months after the surrender of Ger-
many. With actual fighting at an end,
they will need more than ever before
the morale-sustaining services of such
agencies as USO. which provides rest
centers and sends USO-Camp Shows
into every theater of war. These ser-
vices also must go without interrup-
tion to our troops In the Pacific.’’
Citing the increased need for ssr.
vices to people of the libeiated coun-
tries Judge Powell said:
“The people of France, Belgium
Norway. Holland, Greece, Poland and
the other countries now liberated or to
be liberated .-oon, after years under the
harsh heel of the invader will need our
help now as never before. They must,
nave feed, clothing, medicines and ]
other supplies to maintain lile. They I
must have seed so that they may
plant crops and cnce more before self- 1
sustaining.
"Above all, they must have hope, un-
less the world is to reap a vast crop of
hopelessly-defeated humanity as a re-
sult of the war.”
Citing the statement of Maj Gen.
Lewis S. Hers hey, national director of
Selective Service, that at least 10
months will be required to demobilize
the army even after final victory.
Judge Powell urged all Texans to give
full support to the National War Fund
campaigns to be conducted in every
community and county of Texas dur-
ing the next few weeks.
“We cannot let our fighting men
down now," he declared. “Every
Texan should give to the National
War Fund in the coming campaign,
for our own and for our Allies! Only
