LIVES OF MISSING AIRMEN
Ft. Worth.—It’s a good thing the
Navigator on the crew of a B-36
based here thought about buying
Stihis wife a new cigarette lighter
while he was in Alaska on a train-
ing mission. On the return trip
the big ship developed engine
trouble, and the crew bailed out
on a small island off the coast of
British Columbia. A signal fire
lighted by the lighter purchased
as a gift, brought rescuers. Five
Texans were among the 17 mem-
bers of the crew who were found.

THREE COUNTIES UNITE IN
WAR OF EXTERMINATION
Athens.—All out war was de-
clared by farmers and stockmen
in three East Texas counties last
week. The campaign is directed
at exterminating foxes in Kauf-
man, Henderson and Cherokee
counties. A rabies epidemic, be-
lieved to be spread by rabid foxes
has been raging for two years.
In one county alone stock losses
amounted to $100,000 last year.
SHERIFF PUTS HEAT ON—
RECOVERS "HOT" LOOT
Hillsboro.—Sheriff Charlie Gar-
rison believes in striking while
the iron is hot. Last week a house-
wife reported her flat iron was
missing. The Sheriff rounded up
the maid who did the ironing, who
in turn took him to a pawnshop,
where he recovered the missing
iron. When he returned it to the
housewife, it was still warm. -
