union of old Maccabee friends, and a
banquet given the North Texas Past
President's Association, of which she is
a member.

Mrs. Vivian Cohn Summers
Our fellow townsman. M. S. Cohn,
and son. Donald, were called to Hous-
ton Tuesday to attend the funeral of
their daughter and sister. Mrs. Vivian
Cohn Summers, who died in a Houston
hospital rather suddenly Monday.
Mrs. Summers, age 41. will be remem.
bered by many friends who knew her
here before her marriage a number of
years ago. She is survived by her fa-
ther and brother in Rockdale: her hus-
band. E. H. Summers of Houston; one
daughter. Mrs. Rosalie Workman; one
grandson, and her mother and step-
father. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jamison,
all of Houston.

Mrs. M. J. Dodd
Mrs. M. J. Dodd, age 83 years, 7
months and 22 days, died Monday at
the home of her daughter. Mrs. Nancy
Boothe, in this city, and was buried
Tuesday in the Sand Grove cemetery.
Revs. H. E. Crone and L. E. Strickland,
pastors of the local Christian and Bap-
tist churches, officiating.
Mr- Dodd had lived in this county
for almost half a century’, being a
member of the pioneer Bankston fam-
ily.
She was the mother of six children,
three of whom survive her. as follows:
.Mrs. Nancy Boothe. Rockdale; Mrs.
Bessie Ferguson. Rockdale, and Charley
Williams. Milano. She is also survived
by three brothers, Tom. Jim and George
Bankston: nineteen grandchildren, and
eleven great grandchildren also survive
her.
Miss Alice Elloie Barkley, senior stu-
dent of S. M. U.. Dallas, spent the Eas-
ter-San Jacinto holidays with her par-
ents. Dr. and Mrs. T. S. Barkley.
The Philathea Class of the Metho-
dist Sunday school will meet with Mrs.
Gus Backhaus Friday afternoon at 3
o’clock.
Mrs. Rush Phillips and daughter,
Miss Irene. Mrs. W H Vesey and Mrs.
Maude Watkins visited relatives and
friends in Houston over the week end
holidays.
Friends have received word from Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley Wilson, of San An-
gelo, announcing the arrival of a 7-lb.
girl. Maudie Helen. Mrs. Wilson is the
daughter of Mrs. R. T. Williams, for-
merly of Milano.
Mr. and Mrs. V. M. McMillan, of
Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Smith, of
Waco, and Mrs. R. C. Traweek and
sons, of Austin, were Easter visitors in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. McMil-
lan and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Rhodes.
John Diver
John Diver, 70. a citizen of Milam
county for mere than 50 years, died at
his home in the Sand Grove commun-
ity yesterday, and was buried this
'Thursday) morning at the Oak Lawn
cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. H. E
Crone, pastor of the Christian church
officiated.
Mr. Diver was born in England No-
vember 22. 1865. and came to Texas
wirh his parents in 1874. He was mar-
ried in 1885 to Miss Mary Jane Med-
dles. He is survived by his wife, two
sons, five brothers, two sisters, seven
grandchildren and three great grand-
children.

Following the two course luncheon,
bridge was played throughout the at-
ternoon. Mrs. Preston Perry Jr. re-
ceived a lovely potted Easter lily for
having won high score in the games.
The guests were Mesdames P. H.
Perry Sr. W. C. Marrs. Glenn Stewart.
J. K. Lanning, Preston Perry Jr., C. R.
Isaacs and H. H. Coffield.
Contract Club
Friday evening Mrs. Emory B. Camp
was hostess to the Contract Bridge Club
at her home in Cameron when hus-
bands of the members were invited
guests. Spring flowers adorned the re-
ception suite and all appointments
were suggestive of the Easter season.
In the games of contract played. Mrs.
C. R. Isaacs won high score among the
ladies and was awarded an attractive
vase. For gentlemen’s high score, Mr.
Roy Tyson received a -et of ash trays.
Individual Easter cakes and ice cream
were served on trays that held center
pieces of a cake made in the form of
an Easter basket, in which was nestled
a small bunny. These were given for
table favors in the cuts and went to
T. B. Ryan. Roy Tyson and Preston
Perry Jr.
S. S. Class Picnic
Mrs. Izolie Copeland, superintendent
of the junior department of the Bap-
tist Sunday school, entertained her pu-
pils Monday. April 22, with a picnic.
The party left Rockdale at 10:30 and
drove to the Gjedde farm where a de- j
lightful lunch was spread, with coffee. |
soda water and grape juice for drinks. J
The party then went to Gee mountain i
and spent several hours before starting j
home.
On the way home the boys took a
swim in E. H. Foster's tank, while the
girls picked flowers and dewberries..
All had a delightful time and prom- j
ised to try to bring new members for
the Sunday school next Sunday. Mrs.
L. E. Strickland. Mrs. Fifer Caudle,
and Y. A. Gjedde furnished the cars
for the trip.
Ye Merrie Wives Club
An outstanding hospitality of the past
week was Thursday evening when Dr.
and Mrs. T. S. Barkley were genial
hosts to members of Ye Merrie Wives
Club, and other friends. A profusion
of beautiful roses and spring flowers
graced the reception suite where ta-
bles for bridge were arranged. Easter
designed game appointmnts lent fur-
ther attractiveness to the scene.
In the series of contract, club high P
score was won by Mr. and Mrs. C. R. f*
Isaacs. Their prize wa£ a handsome
embossed green suede card table cover.
For guest high score. Mr. and Mrs. C.
C. McGarity received lovely blue Fos-
toria twin vases.
Following the games a perfectly ap-
