Scholarship
Karen Anderson, Rockdale
High School senior, has been
named winner of a $100 scho-
larship given by the Milam
County Chapter, Texas Wo-
man’s Universitv Alumnae As-
sociation
The scholarship will be pre-
sented through the TWU
Foundation in Denton, accord-
ing to Mrs. Frank Matula,
county chapter president. Pros-
pective senior students were
nominated earlier in the year
on the basis of scholarship,
ability and need.
This year's recipient has
taken high school courses pre-
paratory for college entrance
and has maintained an A aver-
age.
She is president of the Li-
brary Club i member of the
Future Teacher's Club, the
Pep Squad, Fut ire Homemak-
ers of America. Spanish Club,
and secretary-treasurer of the
National Honor Society, Rock-
dale.
Last year she received an
academic award in American
History and has met qualifica-
tions for a simihar award this'
year. She also participated m
Interseholastie League short-
hand and had an original pum
published in “Young America
Sings," the National High
School Poetrv Anthology
Miss Anderson is n member
of the First Christian Church
in Rockdale and she is a
former member ol the Order of
Rainbow for Girls.

Notice to Long Distance
Telephone Users
The following changes in the charges for long
distance calls between points within the State
c( Texas will be made effective June 15, 1963:
Basic rates for station-to-station calls
between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. between
points more than 82 miles apart will be
reduced from 5 to 50 cents, with a maxi-
mum charge of 80 cents for a three-
minute call, anywhere within the State
of Texas.
Station-to-station rates remain un-
changed on calls of less than 83 miles,
and on calls made before 9 p.m. In Texas,
the lower “after 9” rates will not apply
on collect calls or on calls charged to a
third telephone.
Person-to-person rates will not be
changed on calls of 56 miles or less.
Basic rates for most person-to-person
calls between points more than 56 miles
apart will be increased five cents for
both day and evening calls.

school of the counts will be
guests to compete for the two
! $100 scholarships1 offered by
the club.
The meeting will be hold at
the First Christian Church fel-
lowship hall in order to accom-
modate the larger crowd ex-
pected, aeeordnig to Earl Vos-
kamp, president.
Following the usual pattern,
the outstanding boy and girl

will tell about their school
work and plans, and one girl
and one boy will be awarded
a scholarship. Russ Sugg is in
charge of the program and the
students will be accompanied
by their superintendents or
some faculty representative.

A luncheon complimenting

Stagecoach Inn in Salado.

In the dining room, the L-
shaped table held for decora-
tion a low arrangement of
carnations and ehrysanthe-
rrmtns in the school colors of
blue and gold. Place cardw
depicted minature graduates in
cap and gown. Marking the
honorce’s place was a gift from
teh hostesses, who had also
presented to her a yellow rose-
bud corsage.
A three course menu was
served.

about the grounds of the his-
toric inn.
