by Western Auto to stimulate pub-
lic interest in the sport of fishing.
The competition started May 15
and closed September 30. It is

mouth and small-mouth black bass
(caught in waters that are open to
| the general public for fishing.
A total of 40,000 contestants reg-
istered in this year’s Big Bass Con-
test. Western Auto officials have
announced their intention of con- j
ducting the contest again next
year. Invitation will be extended
to all fishermen to register next
spring for the 1948 competition.

states, and both went overseas at
the same time. Owen was wound-
ed in action on June 16, 1944, only
a little over a month before his
brother was killed.
Born near Rockdale on March
18, 1920, S/Sgt. Knight was the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Clint Knight.
He attended school at New Salem
and Tracy.
Surviving, besides his parents,
are three brothers and three sis-
ters: Owen Knight, of Milano; Bill
Knight, of Austin; and C. N.
Knight, Jr., with the Army Air
Forces in Florida; and Mr6. Hu-
mbert Barker, Rockdale: Mrs. Hu-

D. Harvey, Austin. Twelve nieces
and nephews also survive.

the opposition, he caught six passes
for 125 yards to rank him among
the top ten in pass receiving in
the conference.
Dockall is a graduate of Rock-
dale High School where he earned
letters in football and basketball.
Now married, he is a senior vet-
eran with one year of football and
eligibility remaining. He served
as co-captain of the Bobcat team
| this past season.
! Dockall was one of nineteen stu-
dents selected from among the stu-
dent body at Southwest Texas
State College to appear in the
1947-48 edition of “Who’s Who
Among Students in American Col-
leges and Universities.”
The students were selected from
junior, senior, and graduate stu-
dents of the College by vote of
the school faculty.
He entered Southwest Texas
State College in 1942, left to serve
in the Air Force, and has had the
distinction of being twice chosen
as an All-Lone Star Conference-
player. He is *a member of the
Harris Blairs, SVA, “T” Associa-
tion, and is a chemistry major.
He was co-captain of the 1947 Bob-
cat football team
