| pools dot the nation’s landscape
j as homeowners set up "pint-siz
led” to "king-sized” models
j Most of these are rigid-frame
models with separate vinyl pi a;
tic liners, while others are the
family-sized circular tank types.
Portable pools range from 6 tc,
18 feet in diameter and from If
to 36 inches deep. They hold
from 275 to 5,500 gallons of wa-
ter.
Larger above-ground pools up
to 24 feet in diameter, 4 feet
deep, and with a capacity of 13,-1
600 gallons are popular too. j
Some are constructed of alum-
inum sidewall supports that pro;
j tect the plastic liner. In addi- j
j tion„ a sturdy tubular steel I
j frame of an interlocking design j
j serves as the over-all outside I
; support .
It is not advisable to set up;
the poo! on tar paper, black top!
or any other asphalt or oil-base
material that would cause a ha-1
rdening of the liner. Also, avoid]
setting up the pool on grass or I
} ground that has been recently;
I treated with chemical com-'
| pounds.
f If the pool is to be placed on a
j patio or other pre-leveled area
of concrete or smooth stone, it
is suggested that a thin layer of
fine sand be spread over the
area as a cushion.
EXTENSIVE RENOVATION — Here Is
a example of the quality work done by
idickes Building Supply Co., which was gen-
eral contractor for the Buchel National
Bank’s new quarters. The job Included com-
plete renovation and remodeling of the bank’s
former quarters and an addition that was
incorporated into the new quarters. Adickes
is now remodeling the exterior of Koehler's
Ine. to match the exterior of the bank.

So here’s a suggestion: Build

b>ve your work bench, Make it
with a sheet of perforated hard-
board. Fasten it with wood
screws to a framework of one-
by-two lumber.
You’ll find a wide variety of
fixtures and hangers at your
j building materials dealer’s. In-
| serf these fixtures into the per-
i forations in the hardboard and
hang your tools on them.
Then your tools all will be
easy to see — and easy to
reach.
Oarage Solution
Here are some suggestions
that will help you add efficient
space to your garage without
making it any larger:
Cover interior walls with
perforated hardboard, so that
tods can be hung instead of pil-
ing them in a corner. Build wall
cabinets for storage of small ob-
jects; comer cabinets to hold
garden and lawn equipment and
work clothes and a drop-leaf
work table so you can lower it
against the wall when it’s not in
use.
Plan a storage platform sus-
pended from the ceiling to hold
screens, storm windows, hard-
board panels and other large,
Hat objects. '
The. style of gutter to be used
is dependent upon 1he architect
tural design of the house and]
personal preference.
Style K-gutter is generally us-
ed when the edge of the roof is
flush with the side of the build-!
ing or if the roof edge extends1
as an eve and is dosed at the i
bottom and finished with a facia ]
board.
On houses where the edge of i
the roof extends beyond the side [
of t he building and the overhang;
is left open, half-round gutter is )
used.
Generally, round downspouts
or conductor pipe is used with
eaves trough and the square pi-
pe is used with K-gutter.
Carport Patio Is
Space Stretcher
In searching for expandable j
space around the home when j
the need arises — many people]
look first at the attached garage.
Because it’s often an integral
part of the house, it’s logically
convertible into a part of the ]
home’s living area.
The next question, of course;
is — “what happens to the car,
the children’s bikes, garden
tools and all the rest that goes

Colorful decors can be estab-
lished in children’s bedrooms by
installing harmonizing planks on
one or more walls. By alternat-
ing two colors, a “candy stripe”
effect is created.
This vertical line treatment al-
so will tend to create a feeling
of greater height in a low room.
By alternating the planks horiz-
ontally, a "rain-bow” effect can
be achieved. This horizontal
treatment will make short walls
look wider.
Plastic-surfaced Marble planks
in addition to creating a color-
ful decor in children’s ivxwn, are
practical and easy to maintain.
Tire planks have a temper-
ed hardboard base that is high-
ly-resistant to hard wear and

into a typical garage"?
An ideal solution can be found
in a combination carport-patio
which offers a bonus of ample
storage space. A central store-
room area provides the founda-
tion for a cantilevered roof of
translucent plastic panels. One
side offers year-round weather
protection for the family car
while the other half of the over-
hang serves as a shelter for out-
door family activities.
Making the structure is an ex-
cellent do-it-yourself project. The
plastic paneling is as easy to
work with as wood is light-
weight and requires a minimum
of stock lumber for its support-
ting framework.
