There’ll be something like se-
venty kids reporting for foot-
ball practice at Cuero high sch-
ool next Monday. That number
is several more than turn out
for some college teams in this
state.
Of course. Top Boss Bill Engle
will be forced to expose his
carving knife before the season
officially gets underway, and
there’ll he some dissapointed
youngsters who’ll ,be sent to
surgery. The Interscholastic
i League rule book states, I am
sure, that no high school team
of any classification can carry
over a specified number of play-
ers.
{ Therefore, die Gobblers squad
; will have to be whacked consi-
i derablv. The situation should, or
! could, be healthy for Coach En-
j gle. with seventy fellows to pick
a team front.
For the first time, the two
; Cuero high schools will be inte-
' grated this fall, and that could
be good or bad. Personally,
have no resentment about the
program, primarily because it
has been successfully installed
at a number of other schools,
with no repercussions.
Too. there are some Negroes
who would like to participate on
the same level with Whites and
there have been and will be
some people of that race who
excel in one or another sport.
cause there were not enough ex
tension cords available, despite
a couple of calls and a survey
of tlie neighborhood.
The youngsters who made the
coffee came up with a pot full
of fluid but no heat. Some folks
like iced coffee, but they had
no ice.
Now, even though we plan to
close the company store, we are
not delinquent in the utilities
field. Might owe a few people
like the young fellow w!k> mows
the lawn or the grocer who has
given us credit on a hatfull of
dog food. People food at our
house requires only a hatfull
and a half - so I’m sure there
is nothing due on the latter.
But then, the Queen and I
have been in wedlock only 28
years and I have always been
one to not rush into things.
There are several things that
refuse to work at our house and
a fourth that comes through on
occasion.
They are the two dogs and a
sleepy Peon who sits on the
lawn, a contrary- lawn mower,
and a balky commode.
A body would think that after
a day, or even a half day of
work, he could go to his country-
side home with nothing but Die-
sel trucks and jet airplanes to
disturb the peace.
Often, there is a fifth who puts
