! king wounded” back in action
for its concluding meet against
Poland next weekend.
“We figure that the Poles
have the strongest team at the
four we meet on this trip," said
Jim Elliott of Villanova Univer-
sity, the head coach of the U.S.
men's team. “But I think every-
one will be back in condition
and that we'll be able to go
with our best men.”
Sprinter Frank Budd of Vill-
nova agreed that Poland will
make a strong bid to spring an
upset on the Yanks.
“We know the last meet will
be tough.” Budd said, “and we
want to be ready.
Seek Undefeated Tour
However, hurdler Hayes Jon-
es of Pontiac, Mich., predicted
that Elliott won't have any trou-
ble getting the team “up” for
the Poles “because ;t's the last
meet. . . and we are dead set
on returning home undefeated.”
The Yanks, led by miler Jim
Beatty and pole valuter Henry
Wadsworth, competed a 122-88
victory over Britain Saturday,
winning 13 of the 20 events dur-
ing a two-day meet at White
City Stadium.
However, the U.S. girls, who
held a 23-21 point lead after the j
first day's competition, won on-
ly two of the six final events to
suffer their third straight defeat
of the tour. The British girls fin-
ished with 56 points to 30 for the
Americans.
