Thoughtless Drivers Block Traffic
By the time the students get out of the parking
area, they have had to wait around 15 minutes.
This is a very serious problem and something has
to be done about it.
One solution is to put up a temporary roadblock
at the intersection of 19th Street and Avenue U., at
17th St. and Ave. T., at 18th St. and Ave. T., and at
18 St. and Ave. V. These would permit only the cars
already in the parking area to exit by the way of
Ave. T. or Ave. U. These roadblocks would be put
up around 3:20 p.m. and removed around 3:40 p.m.
to permit regular traffic to resume.
Every afternoon around 3:30 p.m., many LHS
students rush out of the school building, eager to
get into their cars and either go home, or meet some
friends and drink a coke.
When a student gets ready to leave a school
parking lot, he often finds a line of cars blocking
the exit of the rest of the cars in the parking area.
Students cannot go forward because of the curb
and grass.
The cause of the pileup is usually one car that
refuses to move until the person they are waiting
for comes out of the building.

For this issue of the newspaper we
thought we would have some fun and ask
the students what six items they would
take if they were going to be stranded on
the moon.
The number one item on most of the lists
was a companion (or companions) of the
opposite sex.
Here are some of the answers received:
Gary Vaughn - Junior -1 would take (1)
Leslie Reeves, (2) football uniform, (3)
oxygen, (4) food, (5) outhouse, (6)
apartment.
Roland Strong - Junior - The six items I
would take to the moon would have to be
(1) girls, (2) food, (3) water, (4) clothes, (5)
flashlight, (6) toilet paper.
Herman Dwayne Robinson
Sophomore - (1) food, (2) water, (3) girls, (4)
cigarettes and matches, (5) oxygen, (6)

Lloyd Green - Sophomore - (1) girls, (2)

“. . . We will do or die.” This must be
placed on the tombstone of LHS’s chances
for the silver spurs during the year of 72-
73. We were thoroughly thrashed by an
obviously superior Monterey squad and
must bite the dust of defeat of the spur
game.
Gosh, that tasted terrible. Let’s wash it
down with some water of hopes of a
winning district season. Another loss to getting grades from a computer last week.

quarter of the 72-73 school year is over!
Time sure flies by when you’re having fun.
You say school isn’t fun for you this year?
Maybe you need to get involved. There is a
world of clubs, organizations, and
activities to participate in at LHS. Do your
thing, and time will do its.

Teams such as Monterey can depend
upon size, speed, and depth to win. With
these qualities, they don’t need loyal fans.

Lack of Funds for Lounge
There has been a great deal of interest in
a student lounge lately and I feel it might
be helpful if some of the questions were
answered.
Summer before last the plan for a
student lounge was drawn up and
approved to build in part of the “old” boy’s
dressing room area. This plan involved a
considerable amount of remodeling and
the final cost estimate was almost $ 10,000.
As is often the case in public school
operations, we want more than we have
the money to pay for. This was the case of
the student lounge then and is still the
case. There are many other projects that
need to be done. Perhaps someday we will
realize our student lounge at LHS.

Another point of clarification I feel
needs mentioning is the hall situation at
noon. I realize everyone gets tired of
hearing discussion about this matter, but
it is a problem which needs solving. In the
past we had strict rules concerning
entering the building before the 8:10 bell.
We have relaxed on this time as long as we
do not have large groups blocking the
halls.
The noon hour is a different matter
since we have classes meeting during this
time. We strongly feel that the fourth
period classes should have the same
courtesy we give the others. That is quiet
halls. We also realize that the use of the
restrooms during the lunch period is
sometimes necessary. One student
walking quietly to the restroom is not a
problem, but ten or more talking and
laughing as they go through the hall to the
restroom is a problem.
Why don’t you, as an individual, see
that you are not the cause of disturbance.
Give the students in class fourth period
the same opportunity you expect. Let’s
keep the halls quiet and clean during
fourth period.
face in the sport’ area. But LHS has one
outstanding quality other schools lack.
Spirit. No elaboration is needed to get
across the meaning of that single word.
Every Westerber feels the pride of
knowing his school has tremendous spirit.
I urge every Westerner to give his
utmost in supporting our team to a high
district ranking this year. Pride is all that
counts when you’re a Westerner. Show it.
No system can be perfect to a multiple
of people, but this one must be overall
good, or the state school board would not
have required it. Some teachers and
students are for it, and some are against
the change.
Whatever your stand, remember that
the grade you got was the grade you made.
If it was good, be proud of it. If it was poor,
work harder this nine weeks and build it
up. Good grades will help you a great deal
