Dear Heloise:
I entertain rather frequently,
and, whether it’s our personal
friends or my husband’s bus-
iness acquaintances, I never
leave anything to memory.
After I have,served dinner to
guests I always write in my
little blue notebook, who was
served and exactly what was
served in great detail --- from
the hors d’oeuvres to the des-
sert,
I make notes as to the
guests’ preferences in food and
also jot down any diet peculi-
arities of any of the guests.
I always date it and I am
never at -a loss when I plan to
entertain these particular guests
again because I know what I
served the last time, and when
it was.
Makes entertaining at dinner
so much easier and sure makes
for a more relaxed hostess.

The American League cham-

all the scoring until the fifth

which were always in a frus-
trattor'y messy mass of tang-
les
One day I removed all those
threaded needles and solved my
problem thusly:
Pulled the thread in each
'■ needle evenly so it was doubled.
! inserted the needle into the
' cushion as If taking a giant
basting stitch. Then wound the
| thread around the point of the
' needle to the eye until all the
thread was wound and the re-
sult was an elliiptical look
! (shaped like an eye).
! One cushion is used for my
J sewing threads and the other
j is for needles threaded with
| heavier strands such as used
j on buttons and in darning.
I I unwind the thread on the
needle I wish to use and there is
no twist or tangle to fight with.
Your pin cushions are so sat- j
isfyingly pretty this way that 11
urge your readers to spend a
little time on this most reward-
ing project.

ed up the advantages of artific-
ial turf. What would have been
a mud battle on a sod field was
a prettv good ball game. The
wet ball cut down on the pass-
ing of both dubs but otherwise
it was a pretty normal game.
Until a player hit the ground
and left a wake of water as he
slid, the viewer was not aware
of the depth of the water on the
field. There was little or no
trouble with footing for the run-
ners.
| The national champion Texas
Longhorns rolled to an easy 41-
9 triumph over the Oklahoma
Sooners at the Cotton Bowl Sat-
urday but it was a costly vic-
tory.
The Longhorns' All-America
sustained a broken left arm In
a collision while trying to snag
an Eddie Phillips pass and will
be out for the rest of the sea-
son.
The Sooners made a football
game out of it for the first
quarter by coming up with a
UT-type wishbone T offense that
was a complete surprise to
Coach Darrell Royal and his
Longhorns.
In other action a smooth-
working bunch of Texas Tech
Red Raiders used the same type
of offense to zap Texas A&M
21-7 and thus har.g on in the
Southwest Conference race. The
Raiders were beaten by Tex-
as earlier.
Arkansas rolled over the hap-
less Baylor Bears 41-7, which
gives the Razorbacks a half-
game lead in confernce stand-
ing over the Longhorns who
have have only played one con-
ference game to date.
Texas Christian's H o r ned
Frogs were bounced 34-20 by
Oklahoma State and the Rice
Owls were idle.
Outside the conference, the
University of Houston — which
seems to be on the road to join-
ing the SWC — clobbered Missi-
ssippi State 31-14 at Starkville.
Saturday. David Scott won the
13-year-old division with 455H
total points and will compete in
Houston Saturday.-
The district competition in
) Houston will be a 9 a.m. Sat-
urday in Del Mar Stadium,
Cuero’s Darryl Leist was se-
cond in the 8-year-old division
in Victoria being beat out by
Richard White of Mathis. Only
first place winners advance in
the competition staged by Ford
Motor Company.
Nine-year-old Curtis Brown
of Vidauri came in first in that
division with Mitchell Mardis
of Freeport being second.
Palacios will be represented
by Chuck Shreve in the 10-year-
old group and James Walters
of Angleton was second.
Matthew Williams of Clut#
was first among the 11-year-olds
and Matt Madewell of Victo-
ria second.
Mark Smith of Port Lavaca
was first in the 12-year-old
group and Mike Hurdle of Vic-
toria second.
Mark Mardis of Freeport
came in second to Scott in the
13 year bracket.
And, speaking of the wet field
in Dallas, how about those 50,-
000 some odd fans that sat out
there in the downpour and
watched the battle? I am a pret-
ty avid football fan but I was
grateful to be sitting In a chair
in the living room watching —
warm, dry and comfortable.
