Bill Mazeroski and Dave Cash
of the Pittsburgh Pirates are
playing out one of the classic
sequences of spring training:
The fading veteran fighting for
his job against the fast-rising
youngster.
Mazeroski, 34, batted only

and is expected to surrender
the regular second base job to

BOUT ANNOUNCED
CHICAGO IUPI) - Unbeaten
heavy-weight George Foreman,
winner of 26 straight, will meet
Roosevelt Eddie in a ID-round
bout at the Playboy Club. Lake
Geneva, Wis., April 3, it was
announced Tuesday. The bout
will be staged as part of a
dinner program with match-
maker Joe Kellman scheduled
to arrange a pair of five-round

every Houston player had to
run the mile inside six minutes.
What the Houston players said
about the rule would make you
put your fingers in your ears.
Keeping Them Happy
Harry Walker has abolished
the rule this spring and while
he was on this abolition move-
ment he also did away with
all ,he “gadgets” in camp —
the exercise contraptions which
were designed to convert every
Houston player into Mr. Am-
erica.
“We’ve tried to eliminate
everything that would get ’em
upset,” says Harry Walker.
“Attitude is the No. 1 thing,”
he says about his players. "We
try to kepp ’em happy. No-
body liked the mile so we don't
getting in their running. They
still have to run, only it's dif-
ferent now.”
How is it different?
“They circle the field once
and that’s a quarter mile. Then
they all warm up and do an-
other quarter. They play pepper
after that and run around the
field a third time.
At the end of the workout we
run ’em foul line to foul line
eight times and of course they
get their normal amount of run-
ning working iri the infield
and outfield. So all told this
way they run maybe a mile and
a half anyway. You know how
it is. I give; now you gotta
give.”
