ST. JOHN EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, MeyttBViflt
But far be It from me to glory except to the cross of our
Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me,
and I to the world. Galatians 6:14.
What a wonderful message the cross of Christ gives! It is
the most wonderful outshining of love ever seen in the world. It
proclaims hope and joy. peace and salvation to all. Indeed the re-
deeming love of the cross of Christ is the very heart of the
Christian religion. Without it we would all be helpless and fort
sinners without any hope of eternity or of salvation.
At the cross of Christ we see the love of God in the greatest
sacrificial act of all time. History has never recorded any other
act of love like it. When we think of Christ coming into the world
to suffer as He did in our behalf, we realize how great is God’s
love.
There to an old story about Tintoretto, a world-famous Vene-
tian painter. Not long before he died he asked to be taken to the
seaside. He wanted to look upon the Adriatic Sea just one mote
time before he died. As his eyes swept over the rolling waves off
to the far horizon he exclaimed, ‘‘The sea always grows greater."
And so it is for tile man who stands before the cron of Christ.
REV. 9HLROY GREGOR,
TABTOB
Each time we think of it, we are compelled to come hack. WO
ere filled with a desire to Offer our thanks and praise to God. R
causes us to bow in great humility as we see the greatness «t
Christ’s work for ell time. When its message reaches into our
heart it causes us to want to be His friends forever. There is
something so gripping about it as to hold us from ever wihting
to tum away from the Christ. Instead, It oompells us to go with
Him and to want to share our life with Him. We must tell others
about Him.
A teacher in Sunday school was telling one day about Christ’s
death an the cross. She pointed out how painful it mutt be to have
nails driven through hands and feet, and a spear thrust to the
side, and the plaited thorns crushed down upon one's head. As
she toM tha story the children grew very still. One little boy was
so touched that tears began to trickle down his check. "Why did
He do it?” he ashed through tears. The teacher replied, "Because
He loved you." The Cross — what a wonder!
