publicized sore arm was over-
rated. hitting Taylor with five-
and 27-yard touchdown passes
and hurling a five-yarder to
rookie Elmo Wright. Ed Podo-
lak cracked over from thp one
for the fourth touchdown of the
second period.
But Dawson's touchdown
passes were nothing compared
to the 51 and 82-yarders he flip-
ped to Taylor that set up scores.
In thp second quarter, Dawson
completed 5 of 6 passes for 170
yards.
The Steelers reached the
height of their frustration in the
fourth quarter when Dave
Smith gathered in a 0-yard pass
from Terry Bradshaw and loped
into the end zone. But Smith
threw the hall away before he
crossed the goal line. The ball
bounced out of the end zone
and the Chief* got It on a touch-
back.
John Fuqua scored the Steel-
era' only touchdown on a ono-
yard run with 10:05 left in the
game after Jan Stenerud toed
an 11-yard field goal for Kansas
City.
Oornerback Emmitt Thomas
added a 32-yard touchdown with
a pass inteception late in the
game.
Pittsburgh jumped to a 9-0
lead in the first quarter when
Rdy Gerela kicked 32, 40 and
35-yard field goals.
Dawson hit Tayior with a five-
yard TD pass on third down. It
was Dawson’s 290th career
touchdown toss, a feat that
must have stimulated the 36-
year-old quarterback.
He needl’d only three plays to
put. the Chiefs on thp score-
board again on their next pos-
session. He passed 51 yards to
Taylor, then 27 to the Prairie
View A&M veteran.
The Chiefs sliished 92 yards
in five plays for the next score.
The big play came when Daw-
son appeared trapped for a
safety near his goal then threw
the football 82 yards to Taylor.
The pass traveled 70 yards in
the air.
