NASA Special School
Space Program
It has just been learned that
sometime ago the N.A.S.A.
Manned Space Craft Center, ori-
ginated a special science pro-
gram for school groups. Invi-
tations to participate were mail-
ed to administrators of nine
hundred twenty-seven (927)
schools in the twenty-three (231
counties within a one hundred
(100) approximate mile area of
Houston.
A lecture-demonstration will
be given each Wednesday
throughout the school year to
first (1st) and third (3rd) Wed-
nesday of each month and for
grades 7-12, on the second (2nd)
and fourth (4th) Wednesdays of
each month.
It is understood that the first
invitations went to twenty-three
(23) schools of which Victoria
was included. It is believed
that this is a most important
program and so far nothing has
been heard from the Victoria
School System on this invita-
tion (Editor’s Note) we obtain

Dear Heloise:
The wall side of my tub
shower always peeled and look-
ed so bad.
After a new patch job and
fresh paint, I vowed it would
stay pretty and fresh.
That night I was trying des-
perately to think of a way to
keep the wall looking nice,
when whammo, it hit me right
between the eyes!
I took an extension rod I had
bought to hang over the tub
for drip-drying my clothes and
stretched it out as close to
the waH as possible.
Then I bought a clear plas-
tic shower curtain liner, some
plastic shower curtain rings and
hung the liner next to the wall.
Now when I shower, I pull the
curtain to keep the wall dry,
and when finished slide it back
to the back of the tub.
Mrs. M. J. Owens
We tried this and it really ‘
works. The sulphur tips of the
matches did the job.

LETTER OF THOUGHT
Dear Heloise:
Thought perhaps you and your
readers might enjoy this poem
I’ve carried in my purse for
years:
Wouldn’t this old vgrld be
better, / If the folks we met
would say / I know something
good about you / And treat us
just that way? / Wouldn’t it be
fine and dandy, / If each hand-
clasp warm and true, / Carried
with It this assurance / I know
something good about you! /
Wouldn’t life be a lot more hap-
py, / If we praised the good
we see / For there’s such a
lot of goodness / In the worst
Of you and me! / Wouldn’t it
be Bice to practice / That fine
way of thinking too / You know
something good about me, / I
know something good about
you!

Dear Heloise:
Recently I was with several
women with the job of peeling
50 pounds of onions.
We were in the church kitchen
and the janitor told us to hold
an unHghted match (sulphur
end fi»dng OUT) in our lips
and wA^Mbuld not cry.
Dear Heloise:
I have been meaning to write
to you for a long time about
"Old Faithful” nylon net.
Now that I am in the process
of painting the woodwork in my
house, it reminded me I should
tell you of my discovery.
When I finish painting each
day. and my hands, face, arms,
etc., are covered with paint, I
simply wash with any bar soap,
lather up good and scrub with
nylon net.
No need for any harsh house-
hold paint remover.
This is used on alkali paint,
not latex, as latex will wash
off with any water and soap.
Vanish the red burned up
hands by using nylon net.

Dear Heloise:
I fix my own hair usually in
large curls, sometime* a cas-
cade or wiglet.
To keep it from getting mess-
ed up at night, I wear a chif-
fon scarf tied around my head
like I would if it were rolled
up. It never messes up, and the
scarf is much more attractive
than the icky balloon bonnet.
After I fix my hair, I always
use this same scarf to blot
hair sprav and to make the
ends lay down.
Mrs. L. R. A.

rpHE WOMAN anthropologist and sociolo-
I gist cited more often authoritatively
than Kinsey, Masters & Johnson, or Mon-
tagu, i.e., Margaret Mead, is quoted, "Women
are much fiercer than men. Nobody has ever
given us weapons for long, have they? . , .
Men make up rules of warfare as if they
were making up games. Wome< mply don't
think that way.”
Through three centuries men maintained
rules that women should not bear arms as
combatants in the defense of America. Wom-
en broke the rules in the War of Indepen-
dence, War of 1812-15, the Civil War.
Heroism under fire 1775-1783 of Mary
Ludwig Hays (“Molly Pitcher”) at Mon-
mouth, N.J., and Margaret Corbin at Fort
Washington, N.Y., are memorialized. Nancy
Hart, Kary Redmond, Emily Geiger, Betty
Zane, Susannah Elliot, Sybil Ludington,
Mary Draper, to name a few, are in rolls of
honor of the original 13 States.
None served as mllitantly as Deborah
Sampson of Massachusetts. She enlisted as &
man in 4th Massachusetts Regiment when
aged seventeen. She had gone through three
years of warfare, and had been twice wound-
ed, before the deception was discovered.
When Gen. Washington was President, she
was received at the Capital, with honor, and
voted a pension. Meanwhile, she had married
Benjamin Gannett, a farmer.
Pictorial History of the Negro In America,
by Hughes and Meltzer (pub. by Crown), re-
fers to Mrs. Gannett as one of 5,000 Negroes
of the Revolutionary Army and Navy, and
as “first American woman ever to be en-
rolled in the armed services.” However,
others did succeed in enlisting.
