I PRINCIPAL'S POINTS
Friday, April 13,
NSES had the opportu-
nity to honor students
who made the honor roll,
demonstrated Roaring
Lion character, attained
excellent attendance,
and those who made the
Sixth Grade Leadership
Team. Students on the
Leadership Team for
the fifth six weeks were
Elise Brown,Nolan Da-
vis, Adam Faith, Chloe
Fields, Reyna Garcia,
Sloan Graham, Baley
Green, Brian Hamilton,
Chase Hill, Dinah Ivy,
Jorge Jimenez, McLen-
nan Jones, Henry Kelly,
K.C. Ivy, Lindsey Lucas,
Kyle Manning, Parker
Moon, Krysten Mor-
ris, Dax Neece , Jaycee
Overton, Kelton Parker,
Hannah Pepper, Madi-
son Ratliff, Genevieve
Stunkard, McKenna
Thompson, Weston Vick-
ers, Kourtnee Waters,
and McKenna Wilkins.
The students are to be
commended for their
attention to attendance,
academics, and char-
acter.
NSES teachers and
students are thankful to
have men in our commu-
nity who volunteer their
time through their local
church to be a volunteer
at school. Men from
the Albany Church of
Christ were on campus
last week to assist in
the circle drive, read
to children, and visit
in the cafeteria during
lunch. The First United
Methodist Church men
are on campus this week.
We are so blessed to
have caring men in our
community who are
interested in serving
in this important and
useful capacity through
the Albany Ministe-
rial Alliance Mentoring
Program.
Next week will be
an important week of
testing in Texas Public
Schools. Students in
grades 3, 4, and 6 will
take the mathematics
and reading portions of
the State of Texas As-
sessment of Academic
Readiness or STAAR
exam on Tuesday and
Wednesday, April 24 and
25. Fifth graders will
take the science portion
of the test on Thursday
We believe our students
will perform well on the
mandated assessments.
I COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Self-confidence, re-
sponsibility, character,
and resiliency all find
their foundation in the
same place. They grow
out of the opportunities
children create when
they make poor decisions
and are faced with the
consequences that follow.
Wise parents over-
ride their own natural
tendencies to rescue
or to tell kids how to
deal with these oppor-
tunities. If they don’t,
the opportunities are
lost. Over a period of
time, youngsters start
to believe that others
are smarter and more
capable than they are.
SCHOOL BOARD
Albany ISD support staff rehired
♦ Local music
teacher resigns
By Melinda L. Lucas
The Albany ISD school
board members agreed
to send letters of assur-
ance for the 2012-2013
school year to the support
staff during the regular
monthly board meeting on
Monday, April 16.
The recommendation by
Supt. Shane Fields that all
the staffbe rehired was ap-
proved unanimously, with
any salary adjustments to
be decided this summer.
Letters of assurance
will be sent to all members
of the existing support
staff, which includes main-
tenance workers, aides,
cafeteria personnel, bus
drivers and secretaries.
Fields noted that sev-
eral of the employees do
“double duty,” serving in
more than one support
staff capacity.
Other Business
•A letter of resignation
was accepted from part-
time music teacher Kyle
Viertel.
•After the first reading
of a local policy update
concerning end-of-course
(EOC) scores, the trustees
changed the wording to
read that EOC scores will
count only toward gaining
credit, not toward class
ranking.
•Usage of facilities was
granted to Stepping Stones
and First Love Daycare
for April 25 (track), and
to local coaches for basket-
ball and volleyball camps
(gym) for several dates this

AHS band earns II at contest
The Albany High School
concert band brought home
a pair of II ratings from
the spring UIL concert and
sight reading competition
on Tuesday, April 17 at
Cooper High School.
A division II, or excel-
lent rating indicates an
unusual performance in
many respects but not
worthy of the highest rat-
ing due to minor defects
in performance or ineffec-
tive interpretation. It is
considered a performance
of distinctive quality.
The musicians travelled
to Abilene to compete in
the small school UIL com-
petition for the Lubbock
region.
The group of high school
and eighth grade musi-
cians performed three
prepared concert pieces

When deciding who your
candidate of choice will be,
I only ask that you consider
these things:
Consider that I have sixteen years of continuous law
enforcement experience.
Consider that I have proven myself as a successful
criminal investigator at the county, city, and state levels.
Consider that I have a proven track record for being
aggressive towards drugs.
s/ Consider that I take a personal interest in educating,
protecting, and being involved with our youth.
v/ Consider that I will provide on-the-street patrol coverage
24 hours a day who will respond promptly when called
upon.
\Z Consider that I will deploy a professional investigative
department willing to utilize any available investigative
resources for all the citizens of Shackelford County.
