BEGINNING OF LIFE FOR DAVID
Tsgt. David L .R. Harper was born on February 25th, 1946 to Ruben D.
Harper and the late Annie J. Harper in Gonzales, TX. He joined church
at an early age. He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School,
attended Douglas Jr. High and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High
School in San Antonio, TX.
DAVID'S UNION AND FAMILY ADDITIONS
He married the late Charles Etta Hammonds December 27th, 1967.
They had (2) two children, David L.R. Harper, Jr. AKA (Shane) and
Christina L. Harper AKA (Ceta).
After marrying his wife, David joined the Army Reserves, and then went
to full enlistment in the US Army active duty. After completing his term
in the Army, he continued his passion to protect and serve his fellow
American Citizens, by joining the United States Air Force where he
served his country for an additional 19 years. During his time in the US
Air Force David proudly achieved Master Air Craft Mechanic, protecting
our soldiers from behind a different line, David repaired . and
maintained A-7 Corchorus, T-38's, and F-4 Phantom airplanes. Just to
name a few, he kept our pilots competing in the air.
Continuing his desire to serve those around him (while remaining in the
United States Air Force). David turned his attention to another much
needed field, (Medical). David served as Surgical Technician then
promoting up to Surgical Assistant, changing the lives of those he
touched and making a difference to all that knew him. David proudly
retired from the USAF in 1988 in Glendale, Arizona, at Luke Air Force
Base. He remained in Arizona as he nurtured his wife, and continued
rearing his children; son David Jr. and daughter Christina.
David was preceded in death by his mother; Annie J. Harper and his
wife; Charles Etta Hammonds.
He leaves to cherish his memories, father; Ruben D Harper, children;
David L.R. Harper, Jr. (Elizabeth), Christina Harper, sisters; Luvenia Ricks
(Julius), Onie May Harper, Ruthie May Sloan (James), Rosie Lee Hearn,
Joanne Stafford, Erma Harper, Faye Harper, brothers; Ray L. Wilson
(Deborah), Donnell Harper (Theresa), L.D. Harper (Margaret), aunts;
Verleaner Hicks and Ethel Bouldin, uncle; Julius Hicks, and a host of
nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and other relatives
and friends.ORDER OF SERVICE
