PALO PINTO-Palo Pinto
County will need a new fire
marshal, county commis-
sioners learned Monday at
their regu-
lar meeting,
after Fire
Marshal
Buddy
Harwell
announced
his resigna-
tion from
the post.
"It was a
bittersweet
thing," he said of the deci-
sion to resign.
He will leave the position
May 23 for a job as assistant
fire chief/fire marshal in
Cuero, a city of about 7,000
between San Antonio and
Victoria.
"It's a growing little
town," he said.
Harwell has served as fire
marshal here for two years,
and had just been reappoint-
ed to the post when he made
the decision to accept the
offer in Cuero. He said it has
been a tough three weeks
making the decision to leave
the county, but in the end
felt it was a good choice at
this time in his career.

The man sat on the floor in his home rocking
back and forth. He had evidently vomited earlier.
This was the scene Mineral Wells police
came upon May 7 when they received an emer-
gency call to a trailer park in the 2000 block of
FM Road 1195, said Randy Wright, police
spokesman. The man had apparently been
smoking a K2 product and had an adverse
reaction to the drug, a form of synthetic mari-
