On November 30, 1012,
Commissioner of Education
Michael Williams announced
that, for the 1012-13 school
year, districts may adopt a reso-
lution deferring implementation
of the statutory provisions that
requires performance on end-
of-course state assessment
tests to count as 15% of a
student’s final course grade.
This is the second year that the
commissioner has allowed this
statutory requirement to be de-
ferred. A number of legislators
have indicated a desire to re-
move the current statutory pro-
vision of that 15% mle during
the 83rd Legislative session.
The Board approved a resolu-
tion deferring the 15% mle for
the 2012-12 school year.

Tmll announced that all board

Energy Conservation Office
(SECO) in Austin on Novem-
ber 15th by Quantified Consult-
ing, Inc. on behalf of the school
district. If the grant applica-
tion is approved by SECO, the
school district would receive up
to $100,000 to replace ageing
HVAC units on high school
classrooms.
The school district is hop-
ing to hear something on that
grant application by the end of
the month.
In other non-action items,

two students from 400 last
month to 398 this month.
The Board went into

opened the vacancy on Novem-
ber 1, and since that time, it has
received 21 applications. The
Board plans to begin interview-

Part In Continuing Education School
COLLEGE STATION -
District Clerk Shari Smith and
County Clerk Linda Jones
joined over 400 county and dis-
trict clerks for the School for
County and District Clerks at
the Hilton College Station Hotel
and conference Center on Janu-
ary 14-17, 2013.
“Texas District and County
clerks are required to get a mini-
mum of twenty hours of con-
tinuing education each year.
The College Station Conference
is a great place to network and
leam some of the new require-
ments for the coming year,”
stated Jones.
The annual continuing edu-
cation School is sponsored by
the V.G. Young Institute of
County Government, which is
part of the Texas A & M
AgriLife Extension Service. The
Institute provides elected
county official with information
and technical assistance to help
official complete their state-
mandated, minimum continu-
ing education requirements.
The School offered 20.5 hours
of credit to clerks attending all
of the sessions.
“As one of a small num-
ber of states that requires all
elected county officials to earn
continuing educations credits,”
explained Richard O. Avery,
Director of the Institute,
“Texas county officials get an
opportunity to learn new and
vital information, so they can
better serve the citizens of
Texas. The Institute provides
education to county commis-
sioners, judges, tax assessor-
collectors, county and district
clerks and HR professionals
through various programs held
