Archer County Junior Live-
stock Association, headed by
John Bell, president, has an-
nounced plans to enlarge the
livestock show facilities in
Archer City. The association
originally constructed an en-
closed 60x100 show barn and
later added a 40x100 beef
barn. The new addition
planned will be an additional
50x100 construction that will
connect the two present
buildings.
Archer County Commis-
sioners Court approved an
expenditure of $2,000 at
their last regular meeting to
purchase the necessary cor-
rugated iron to cover the
new addition. Structural
pipe is being donated from
various individuals and oil
firms in the county and the
construction will be under
the supervision of Gerald
Haile, Archer City vo-ag
teacher.
Ed Standlee. vo-ag teacher
at Megargel, is helping in
the project along with Mar-
vin Henry. County Agent.
The added facilities are
scheduled to be completed
by the end of the school
year, according to Haile.
The new addition will fea-
ture an asphalt floor and
with the added space, it will
permit showing of all live-
stock entries in the enclosed
structure. Individuals inter-
ested in making a monetary
or material donation to the
association can contact Bell,
Henry or one of the ag
teachers in the county.
The facilities are used for
various county functions,
including the annual rattle-
snake roundup, Wichita
Valley Rabbit Breeder’s
shows. Farm Bureau annual
watermelon feast, and other
activities. The facilities were
also used by county dairy-
men to host the annual
Texas Holstein - Friesian
black and white show, which
was termed a great success.
Included in the new con-
struction will be the enclo-
sure of the east wing to per-
mit the display of FHA pro-
jects at the annual junior
show. County Agent Henry
said tenative plans call for
enclosure of the 10x80 wing
and will feature wall panel-
ing and a cement floor and
possible heating and cool-
ing. The FHA division of the
show, in the past, has been
held in the high school cafe-
teria. With the new addition,
it will make it possible for
