Monday afternoon at the Carter
ranch residence.
The ACHS colors of gold and
black were featured in table
decorations which included the
centerpiece of a minature owl
with extending streamer her-
alding the occasion with the
inscription, “Sandy, Senior,
’69.” The table was covered
with a lace cloth over gold,
and individual nut cups were
imitation mortar-boards.
The hostesses presented the
honor guest and her mother,

Mrs. Alfons Kermiar was
named new Grand Regent of
the Windthorst Catholic Daugh-
ters of Air erica when officers
were elected Thursday, May 8.
To serve with Mrs. Kermiar
are Mmes. George Humpert,
vice-Grand Regent; John Sch-
roeder, prophetess; Jimmy
Wolf, financial secretary; Ed-
mon Vieth, historian; Bill Sch-
roeder, treasurer; Willie Hoff,
monitor; Leo A. Hoff, sentinel;
Gerald Steinberger, lecturer;
and Charles Schroeder, organ-
ist. Trustees are Mmes. Clar-
ence Wilde and Richard Sch-
roeder.
Rev. Cletus Post, spiritual
advisor, closed the meeting
with prayer which was follow-
ed by the serving of refresh-
ments.

corsages.
Co-students enjoying the af-
ternoon affair included Susie
Wallace, Petra Robison, Becky
Crow, Carol Groves, Debie
Martin, Karin Patterson, Kan-
dace Bell, Sharon Petit and
Judy Roderick. Also on the
invitation list were Barbara
Wylie, Kathy Patterson, Lora
Smitson, Donna Hill, Debbie
Meek and Linda Schaefer.
The home of Mrs. Pete Hud-
son, 904 S. Center, was the
setting for a Sunday afternoon
party given by Mrs. John tT-
Donohoe and honoring two Ar-
cher City High School seniors,
Misses Barbara Wylie and
Susie Wallace.
The refreshment table was
centered with a yellow and white
floral arrangement from which
extended yellow streamers in-
scribed with “Barbara” and
“Susie.”
Cokes and cakes were served
by the co-hostesses to Misses
Mindy Rodgers, Kathi Patter-
son, Petra Robison, Debie Mar-
tin and Donna Hill and mothers
of the honorees, Mrs. Paul
Wylie and Mrs. A. C. Wallace.
Mrs. O’Donohoe presented the
honor guests with travel clocks.
DEN ONE GOES
TO FUNLAND
Deri One Cub Scouts were
treated by their den mother,
Mrs. R. C. Graves, to a trip
to Funland Saturday, with a pic-
nic supper following.
Enjoying the outing were Cubs
Joe Baughman, Leslie Stubbs,
Bruce Wood, Paul Parsley and
Rickey Graves. Accompanying
the group were Brenda and
R. C. Graves, Jr.

Archer City Independent
School District
The Board of Equalization will convene on Tuesday,
May 27, 1969, for Real and Personal Property, 10:00
A.M. to 12:00 and 2:00 P.M. to 5 P.M. The Board will
convene at the Archer County Courthouse, Commissioner’s
Courtroom, in Archer City, Texas, for the purpose of
hearing all protest and determining the valuation of all
property subject to taxation by the Archer City Independent
School District, Archer City, Texas.
Oil and Utilities taxable property will be heard on
May 21, 1969.

Highlight of the evening was
the cutting of the “bride’s
cake,” in which was concealed a
man’s wedding band. Tradition-
ally, the girl who eats the
slice of cake containing the
ring will be the next to wed.
Miss Sandra Maag, whose en-
gagement to David L. Reddell
D of Odessa was recently an-
nounced, was the recipient of
the ring.
Those enjoying the party with
the hostess, honorees and Miss
Maag included Mrs. J. B. Ad-
ams, mother of the prospective
groom, and Mmes. George
Gaulden, Paul Wylie, Charles
Gholson, E. H. Trigg, Jr., Paul-
line Perdue, James Trent, Steve

Miss Burkett was feted May
5 with a lingerie shower given
by Misses Dryden and Dillon
in Chitwood Hall at Texas Tech,
Lubbock, where the young ladles
are students. Seventeen school-
mates attended.

Visits Here
Miss Linda Singer, Mid-
western University senior
biology major and honor stu-
dent, spent the Mother’s Day
weekend with her grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Eddy, 207
W. Cottonwood, in this city.
Miss Singer was the reci-
pient of a $1,000 scholarship
as one of the top 40 students
cited at the MU Honors Day
program held at the university
Tuesday of last week. The
scholarship was presented by
the Wichita County Medical So-
ciety. Linda was elected to
Who’s Who Among Students in
American Colleges and Univer-
sities, is a member of Alpha
Chi Scholastic Honor Society
and of Beta Beta Beta Biological
Honor Society. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
F. Clark of Odessa.
Also visiting in the Eddy
home overnight Saturday was
the gent’s son, L. R. Eddy of
Houston.

Young Paul Wylie, Jr., of
this city accompanied his
grandfather, Les Evans of the
Lake Creek Community, to Aus-
tin the past weekend to visit
an Evans daughter, Mrs. Hu-
bert Henry and family, and to
pick up Mrs. Evans who had
been staying with her grand-
children, Jimmy, Leslie and
Kathleen, while Mr. and Mrs.
Henry were on a trip to San
Francisco, Calif., and Seattle,
Wash. Henry, an executive in
the Texas Highway Dept., was
attending business for the de-
partment.
Mr. and Mrs. “Hub” Moore,
205 E. Plum, were recent week-
end visitors with the Bruce Fer-
rells, former Archer City res-
idents, in Shannon. While vis-
iting, the Moores and Ferrells
attended a horse show at the
Big Loop Rodeo Grounds Sat-
urday afternoon and attended
a hootenanny at Jermyn, Sat-
urday night. They visited in
Jacksboro on Sunday before re-
turning to their Archer City
home. Recent visitors in the
Moore home include Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Cowen of Austin.
Mrs. Carl Peden spent from
Sunday to Wednesday recently
with a daughter, Mrs. John
(Charlotte) Gaumer in Little
Rock, Ark. Charlotte had just
undergone an appendectomy and
in a letter since her mother’s
return home, stated that she
is convalescing nicely.
WEDDING PLANS REVEALED: Miss Donna Gayle Thomp-
son of North Little Rock, Ark., and AIC Donald T. Dorris
of Hamilton Air Force Base, Calif., will be married Fri-
day, June €7, in the First United Methodist Church of North
Little Rock, Ark. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mrs.
Winans Thompson of North Little Rock and Dr. Charles
E. Thompson of Chicago, III. The groom-elect is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Dorris, 404 S. Center, Archer City.

The Bowman Community be-
gan its summer activities with
a weiner roast May 5, held
at the community center.
The new county agent, Marvin
Henry, was introduced and gave
a brief summary of his activi-
ties before coming to Archer
County. He was accompanied
by hs wife.
Following the business ses-
sion, games of dominoes and
“42” were enjoyed.

SET FOR MAY 17
The Antelope sophomore and
junior classes of high school
will sponsor a jamboree in the
school auditorium 7:30 p.m.,
Saturday, May 17. Door prizes
will be given.

cell was at home from Wash-
ington the past weekend, visit-
ing the senior Purcells in this
city and making personal ap-
pearances, giving accounts to
his constituents of his recent
inspection tour of Vietnam.

Sw eetheart
Mindy Rodgers was crowned
sweetheart of the Archer City
High School Band in ceremonies
which were a part of the spring
concert which was presented by
all the school bawls at the old
gym, Tuesday, May 13, at 7:30
p.m., under the direction of
Larry Blassingame, band di-
rector.
Mindy, a senior, was chosen
from a slate of five candidates
for the honor. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
L. Rodgers, 220 S. Sycamore,
and moved with her family to
Archer City from WeUsville,
Kansas in the summer of 1962.
She has been a member of
the band all four of her high
school years and plays the sax-
ophone. She has been a band
officer and served as a ma-
jorette her junior and senior
years.
She has played basketball all
four of her high school years
MINDY RODGERS
and has been employed at the
City Drug last summer and
after school.
She is a member of First
Baptist Church and is a mem-
ber of their youth organization,
Ambassadors for Christ.

House guests last week in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry
Graham in this city were the
lady’s nephews, Kirk and Keith
Eustace of Wichita Falls. On
Friday, the youngsters’ parents
and bran new sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Butch Eustace and Kathy
drove over to pick them up and
visit the Grahams and Pauline
Perdue, mother erf the two
ladies.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Davis of
Pampa spent the past weekend
with her mother, Mrs. W. E.
Strahan, in this city. On Tues-
day the Davises went to Trini-
dad for a Memorial Day pro-
gram. They are to return Fri-
day and Mrs. Strahan plans to
go home with them for a visit.
Mmes. Harvey Stewart of
Redondo, Beach, Calif., and W.
H. Winter of Albuquerque, N.M.,
are visiting their sister’s fam-
ily, the C. S. Ashtons and Pat
Brocks, and their brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
J. W. Sturgeon. Mrs. Winter
will return to her News Mex-
ico home Sunday but Mrs. Stew-
art, the former Minnie Belle
Sturgeon, will remain for an
extended visit.
Mrs. Mattie McKee, who is in
the Olney hospital.
Mrs. Mattie (Molly) McKee^
remains in an Olney hospital
following an accident suffered
in her home last week as she
fell from a chair on which she
was standing while hanging cur-
tains, according to information
gleaned by The News. Although
no bones were broken, she suf-
fered multiple bruises and was
shaken up considerably.

Collector Bobby Stubbs was in
Houston from Saturday of last
week through Wednesday of this
week attending the State Tax
Convention. He also saw some
Astro ball games while in the
coastal city.
Army Private First Class
Jimmy D. Reeves, 22, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reeves
of rural Archer City, has been
assigned as an infantryman with
the 9th Infantry Division in
Vietnam, according to an Army
Home Town News Center re-
lease received last week by
The News.
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Bird of
Matador were recent weekend
guests of Mrs. Foy Bourn, 712
S. Oak.
Visiting this week in the home
of the Roy Alsup family, 1106
S. Oak, are the lady’s broth-
er and sister, Mr. and Mrs. E.E.
Fritz of Roseburg, Ore., who
are also visiting with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lem Groves
in the Shearer Community east
of Olney. The couple is ac-
companied by Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Lamm, also of Oregon.
Mrs. George Dugan of this
city accompanied a son and
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Du-
gan to their home in Vernal,
Utah.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Inman
and children, Harold, Jenifer,
and Laura, were over from their
Wichita Falls home for the day
Sunday with Mrs. Inman’s moth-
er and brother, Margariet and
Mickey Horany, respectively,

daughter and husband, Dr. and
Mrs. Bill Risk of Dallas, were
absent due to having flown to
San Francisco, Calif., for a
medical convention. The other
daughter, Mrs. Tony Pollock,
was hampered by the distance
from Little Rock, Ark., where
her family lives.

spent Mother’s Day with
a daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Butch Eustace, Keith,
Kirk and Kathy in Wichita Falls
where another Perdue daughter
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Teddy
Robertson, Bobby, Sharon and
Sheila also were diners. Join-
ing them in the afternoon were
yet another Perdue daughter,
Mrs. Larry Graham and Me-
lanie of Archer City.

Mrs. Paul Hasley was a coun-
ty seat and News office busi-
ness visitor Tuesday morning
of this week.
Verda Powell of this city
received word by telephone
early Sunday that her brother-
in-law, Jimmy McCracken of
Gainesville, had been taken
about midnight Saturday to a
Wichita Falls hospital, critic-
ally ill. No word has since
reached this office concerning
the condition of the former
Archer City resident.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Horany
and son, Danny, of this city
visited Sunday with the lady’s
mother, Mrs. Sam Kourl, in
Wichita Falls.
Monday visitors with Miss
Effie Jagers were her brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Jagers of Wichita Falls.
