headed into the waves and don’t run
before them. Cross the wake of a

Don’t take your boat too close to
swimmers or fishermen. Remember
your boat has no brakes. Learn
the nautical rules for travel on
waterways and observe them.
Always be sure your boat is
rated as being able to safely han-

motor which you attach. Don’t
crowd a small boat beyond its
rated horsepower. Don’t carry too
big a load. The number of seats

And remember there is a right

boat. Never scramble aboard with
your arms loaded with gear. Keep
your hands free to steady yourself

New S. S. Act Will Aid
Many in Earning Class
Beginning January 1961 many
social security beneficiaries who
work will be able to increase their
part-time or full-time earnings and
still be paid some of their social
security benefits, according to Sam-
uel F. Ward, Jr., district manager
of the Galveston, Texas social se-
curity office.
As before, Mr. Ward said, bene-
ficiaries who earn $1200 or less in
a year will still get their full social
security checks for all 12 months
of the year. But, beginning in
1961, a person earning between
$1200 and $1500 in a year will have
only $1 in benefits withheld for
each $2 earned over $1200. When
earnings are more than $1500 a
year, $1 in benefits will be with-
held for each $1 that earnings go
over $1500.
Until now, a beneficiary lost one
monthly benefit check for each $80
or fraction of $80 he earned over
$1200; earnings of even $1 over
$1200 could cost the beneficiary an
entire monthly benefit of as much
as $120 and also any beenfits pay-
able to his dependents based on
his social security account.

Are you cooking some of the
wild game caught this winter? If
you are a novice at cooking wild
game here are a few hints: Rabbits,
squirrels and other small game
have small waxy scent glands that
should be cut. These are small
kernels located under the forelegs
and along the spine in the small of
the back. The scent glands in a
game bird is just above the tail,
same as a chicken. Prepare and
cook wild game much the same
as you do domestic meat. Seasoning
while cooking helps the flavor—
wild game meat tends to be drier.
Rubbing with butter and frequent
basting helps retain moist flavor.

And then there was the fellow
who remarked as he left the ceme-
tery, “She said, ‘You’ll go fishing
over my dead body’.”

pare your goodness with the good
ness of other men, but with the
