BY RUSSIANS
MOSCOW, March 17—(UP1 —
..The Tied army of the Ckraino in
"heavy attacks today drove the
Germans from a range of hills
in the region of fzyum, 75 miles
southeast of Kharkov.
Front dispatches indicated the
^German armored forces had fail-
• cd to reach the south bank of
the Donets, along which the
Russians had taken up power
fill positions after the reverses
which cost them Kharkov and
-eight other major bases.
W The first drfinilc reports
that the lied army had the
Kerman counter * offensive
on the southern front well
in hand said the Russians
^ had loosed attacks at a
“ minihrr of points along the
lionets line angling south-
eastward front Kharkov and
were expanding their posi-
tions on the south hank of
^ the river.
9 The fighting was especially
violent in the Jzyum area, where
German armored forces were
thrown back from a series of
heights iornmandipg approaches
_ in the Donets.
" trong i Jermaii tank and mo
infixed infantry forces were at-
tacking heavily in some sec-
tors of the Donets front, but
dispatches said they were being
- barred everywhere from the
* river crossings.
