Hiss Pat King presided at the

he first hour, and Miss Marjorie
Tardy presided for the second
tour.
Peach colored lilies in a huge
ardiniere were in the living
•oom. A mixed bouquet of blue
ris and peach gladiolas in a
•rystal bowl, flanked with cry-s-
al holders with tall white tap-
-rs. centered the dining table,
vhich was laid with a lace
loth.
The buffet featured blue can-
lies in crystal holders, and a
enter arrangement of a mlniu-
ure bride anti groom under an
irchway. A mirror background
efleeted the whole.
Tea was served from a silver
ervlce by Mrs. Bruce anil then
Its. Terrell. Squares of white
ake anti hot tea were served.

In the dining room were Mrs.

Hotel in London. Mrs. Pendred
has recently been released from
her volunteer service during

herd, Mrs. Pendred showed lit-
tle surprise at her first taste of
typically "unpredictable” Tex-
as weather. Wheh she arrived.
Tuesday evening, It was a
warm, spring air. She 'awoke
Wednesday morning to find
sleet, a little snow, and later
[rain and fog.

change from London’s constant
fog, she says. England is ex-1
perlencing her most bitterly,

No creeming ... no egg beating
Have all ingredients room temperature (70° to 75°). (Short-
ening should be soft, not melted.) Preheat oven to 350° (mod-
erate). Grease generously and dust with flour 2 round layer pant,
g in. diameter, r >/• in. deep, or I oblong pan. Q x 1 if x 2 in., or l
square pan. QxQx2in. Sift GOLD MEDAL "Kitchen-tested" Flour
before measuring. Measure all ingredients accurately (level)
before starting to mix.
2'/i cup* (2 cups plus 2 tbsp.)
sifted OOtO MEDAL
“KHchon-tottod" Fleur
*1 Vi cups sugar
3 Vi tsp. double-action baking
powder
1 tsp. salt
Vi cup high grade vegetable
shortening,
1 cup milk
1 tsp. flavoring
Beat vigorously with spoon for 2 minutes by clock (about 150
strokes per minute). You may rest a moment when beating by
hand; just count actual beating time or strokes Or mix with
electric mixer on slow to medium speed for 2 minutes. Scrape
- sides and bottom of bowl frequently.

Continue beating 2 more minutes, scraping bowl frequently.
Pour about Vs of batter into prepared pan or pans.
1 sq. unsweetened chocolate (1
ox.), melted, mixed with
Vi tsp. soda
2 tbsp. warm water
Vi tsp. red feed coloring, If de-
sired
Mix until well blended (about Vi minute). Pour chocolate bat-
tet here and there over white batter. Cut through batter several
times with knife for marbled effect.
Boko layers 25 to 30 minutes; oblong cake JJ to 40 minutes;
square cake 50 to 53 minutes in moderate oven (350°). (Square
cakes often crack.") Delicious uniced... warm from t)ie oven
