Annual Reunion Of
Wilson Creek Men
Held Wed., July 4th
The annuul homecoming of Wil-
son Creekmen, their relatives and
friends, was celebrated Independ-
ence Day, July 4, on the spacious
and well kept lawn, at St. Mary’s
Baptist Church, at Wilson Creek.
The pastor, Rev. S. L. White and
Deacon C. H. Deadrick, Sr., and
others of the Church and Commun.
ity voluntarily served as a Re-
ception Committee and received
each one with a cordial welcome.
The happy delegation began to
gather on the grounds around 11
in the morning, every family bring-
ing well ladened baskets of delic-
ious, appetizing food and drinks.
A prayer of thanks, for God’s
goodness and mercy, for freedom
and liberty and for the pursuit of
it, for love, happiness and friend-
ship, for all in attendance here,
and for our Counry and for Peo-
ples everywhere, was offered by
Rev. D. M. Deadrick, who also of-
fered Grace.
The sponsors of this gathering,
Mesdames Ethy McDaniel, Inez
Deadrick and Miss Winnie Shannon
asked L. D. Deadrick, Sr. to serve
as Chairman for a short im-
promptu program and business ses-
sion. “The Lord’s Prayer”, “Amer-
ica, The Beautiful”, and several
other appropriate songs were beau-
tifully rendered by Miss Mary L.
Berry, of Bay City. Short talks
were given by Rev. White and sev-
eral others. It was unanimously
agreed that we would look forward
annually to July 4th, for our home-
coming celebration, combining it
with our observance of Independ-
ence Day, on these same sacred
grounds which seem to hold, in
some way, precious events and ten-
der memories to so many.
The oldest in attendance was
Mrs. Mary Dorsey, 83 years old.
The second in line was Bob Bever-
ley, 80 years old, both of Wilson
Creek.
People registered from Hous-
ton, l a Marque, Hitchcock, Galves-
ton, Bay City, Lane City, Palacios,
Port Lavaca, and elsewhere, as well
as from our own foundation group
from Wilson Creek.
Those in attendance out of state
were Mrs. Lillian Smith Johnson,
Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Johnnie
Shannon Nelson and children, Los
Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Berniece
Deadrick and children, Detroit,
Michigan and Miss Tommie L.
Reed, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The benediction was pronounced
by Rev. White, at five o’clock. This
ended another event connected with
our little community, Wilson Creek.
