ing a bang-up time and hope to
go to the Fair again before it
closes in October,
Barbecue Held
The barbecue held at the Me-
dina I<ake Volunteer Fire De-
partment on Saturday and Sun-
day, August 17 and 18 was ns
usual e. huge success. On both
days the attendance exceeded
-ill other barbecue The Presi-
dent <■*' the Fire Department,
Hob Faurie and the .’’re - dent of
the Ladies Auxiliary express
their appreciation to all those
who had any part in making this
affair so successful.
Mr. Hanno Tasto of San 4u-
tonio donated some nice big
plastic trash cans and liners
that really helped the fellow-
who were doing the cleaning of
the tables.
All in all a big week-end was
had here at the Fire House and
all proceeds will go to the Vol-
unteer Fire Department.
Now the Department will start
preparing for the sou .ye din-
ner that will be held in tne
spring.

attend the barbecue at the Fire
House last Sunday were Mr. and

SUMMER CAMPS HIGHLY
EVALUATED
San Antonio.—Summer camps
operated at Ingram and near
Hunt by the Alamo Area Coun-
cil again were evaluated highly
this year by the national office,
Boy Scouts of America, council
headquarters here announced.
Scouts from Bandera were
among troops from the 15-county
council that participated in this
summer’s camping program.
“Scouts from all over our
council attended and played a
part in this fine record,” said
Col William Pugh, council camp-
ing chairman. (
Camp Friedrich, near Hunt,
was evaluated at 99 points out of
a possible 100, a repeat of its
1907 record. 'Indian Creek Scout
Camp at Ingram received 96
points out of 100, a one-point
increase over last year.
JOHN L. ALANIS WINS
PROMOTION
Saigon, Vietnam. — John L.
Alanis, 25. son of Dan C. Alanis,
Bandera, Texas, was promoted
to Army first lieutenant during
ceremonies near Saigon, Vietnam,
July 15.
A central post fund custodian
in the U. S. Army Headquarters
Area Command, Saigon, Lt.
Alanis entered on active duty in
September 1966, completed basic
training at Ft. Dix, N. J., and
was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas,
prior to his arrival in V^tnam
last month.
A 1961 graduate of Bandera
High School, the lieutenant re-
ceived a bachelor of business ad-
ministration degree in finance in
1966 from Texas AAM Univers-
ity at College Station.
His mother, Mrs. Frances
Alanis, lives in Bandera and his
wife. Sharon, lives at 1626

last week’s paper about Mr. Roy
Brister of Dallas who had been
sick and in the hospital and a

hope he continues to improve.

bad the misfortune to get her
arm caught in a ringer and had
to have a skin graft on her arm.
She was able to return home
Saturday and is now doing nicely.

G. H. Ford has recently retired
from Kelly Field Mr. and Mrs.
Ford enjoyed a visit with their
son. and family in West Faim
Beach, Florida.

have returned from a delightful
trip to Denver, Colorado, where
they visited their son, Dr. Donald
Risinger, and family. They also
spent sever-'1 delightful days in
Durango during their vacation.

from TCU and the only dean of
AddRan, Dr Moore will become
tho first person to receiv* this
high distinction of the Univers-
ity while a tive on its staff and
faculty. Active in ranching,
banking, oil and gas, Weatherly
is » TCU alumnus and major
benefactor to Prite, the graduate
theological seminary. The past
chairman of the board of Ama-
rillo’s First Christian Church is
an enthusiastic supporter of
young people’s work.
More than 360 bachelor, mas-
ter and doctoral degrees will by*
conferred hy Chaneelor Moudy.
The total, combined with the
record-setting 807 earned de-
grees . warded In May, will bring
the 1968 total to more than 1,160
for tin first time in the school’s
