announcement to t lie taxpaying
voters of Sau Patricio County, in
which the Commissioners' Court
explains the reasons for an elec-
tion which flic court has called
tor day 12th. The constitutional
amendment which carrie: In the
general election last November
gives the Commissioners’ Court
(he authority to call this election
to permit the taxpaying voters of
the county to decide whether the
allocation of the tax fund shall
be changed for a period of six
years.
The Tribune suggests to its
readers that they read the an-
nouncement. from the Commis-
sioners’ Court on page 4, to ac-
quaint themselves with the pur-
poses of the election and the ne-

Captain Thotna* H. Barton,
who, with hia wife, has been
here for the past week, visiting
his parents, the Rev. and Mrs.
T. N. Barton, is on a 21-day re-
assignment leave after 12
months overseas duty, serving
with the famous Eighth Air
Corps in the European Theater.
He will report to Miami, Fla.,
for reassignment. Captain and
Mrs. Barton were honored at
an open house on Thursday
evening. April "5, by Mr. and
Mrs. A. D. Toland and Mr. and
Mrs. T. N. Barton, at the To-
iand residence. Captain Barton
was a guest of the Rotary Club
at its regular weekly luncheon

It has been announced that all
business, will cease in Taft at
2:30 p. nt. Saturday as a mark of
respect to the Nation's dead
leader. President Franklin Delano
Roosevelt, who passed away to-
day (Thursday) at it:35 p. m. at
Warm Springs. Ga. L- E. Liaide-
man, manager of the local
Chamber cf Commerce, told The
Tribune that ail business houses
of the city have agreed to close
their doors at the time named.
