Holliday Teacher and Student
Attends 4-Day Science Lecture
Far-reaching technological de-
velopments that are just be-
ginning and will require the cre-
ative thoughts of young people in
the fields of engineering and
science were described to Ray
Coe, science teacher at Holliday
High School and John Szenasi,
student, who were among more
than 500 Texas high school
science students and teachers
at the fourth annual Texas Nu-
clear Science Symposium. They
completed recently a four-day
meeting at the University of Tex-
as and heard some of the na-
tion’s outstanding scientists de-
scribe the latest developments
in nuclear physics and controlled
thermonuclear research.

One of the speakers, Dr. Wil-

reported that a new wave of
optimism is overtaking scientists
around the globe who are en-

tremendous power of the hy-

carried out in controlled nuclear
research have confirmed new
theoretical principles and dra-
matically demonstrate the feasi-
bility of achieving control of the
thermonuclear (H-bomb) reaction
for the generation of electric
power, Dr. Drummond said.

The Archer County News Thursday, June 18, 1964
RAY COE, right, science teacher at Holliday High School,
explains to John Szerasi, student, one of the items displayed at
the Texas Nuclear Science Symposium that ended last week at
the University of Texas. They were guests of Texas Electric
Service Company at the four-day meeting jointly sponsored by
the University and the Texas Atomic Energy Research Founda-
tion, composed of 10 electric power companies operating in
Texas.
By Mrs. Jack Robertson
It seems that we still have
some visitors to the county who
are in fear of an Indian attack.
These are the two dozen little
boys who are spending part of
their summer vacation at the
Wichita Falls Boys Club near
Lake Kickapoo. Under the guid-
ance of Graham Ball, camp di-
rector, the youngsters were pre-
pared to go out to the wilds of
Archer County, from their homes
in Wichita Falls.
When they saw the O’Donohoe
buffalo near the camp, they were
sure the Indians were not far
away. With a knowledge of tv
westerns, they knew that when
the owls hooted and the coyotes
barked, that was really the red-
skins planning a raid.
i The Boys Club Camp is located
ion the 64 acres of land that was
formerly the old Archer County
Park, behind the lake dam, and
is rapidly being developed into
a first rate campsite. A swimming
pool, large mess hall, six cab-
ins and a caretakers home have
been erected and other buildings
are under construction. Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Bailes are park cus-
todians.
Under the supervision of Mr.
and Mrs. Ball, two instructors
and a cook, the boys are kept
busy with fishing, swimming,
baseball and general camp
chores. Becoming acquainted
with the wonderful outdoors, in
this lovely spring weather, is an
experience that the boys will
carry with them always, even
after they have become respon-
sible adult citizens.
