Trojans Chill Chillicothe 51-0
To Rack Up Seventh Victory
by George Beaman
Someday, somebody may
design a T-shirt that reads
“Where in the heck is Wind-
thorst. Texas.”
Until that happens the foot-
ball Trojans are doing their
best to make the rest of the
state take notice of Archer
County's third ranked foot-
ball team in Class B.
The Chillicothe Eagles
were the latest to feel the
brunt of the Trojan express
as Windthorst used the big
play in the first half and
then had the defense set up
the touchdown brigade in
the final half to turn an ex-
pected tight game into a
51-0 romp.
The Eagles took the open-
ing kick-off. but the stout
Trojan defense clipped their
wings on the first series and
forced a punt. On Wind-
thorst’s first play from
scrimmage. QB Randy Wolf
made a perfect fake to Frank
Wolf into the line, calmly
stepped back, and rifled a 37
yard pass to Russel Koetter
who had gotten behind all
the Eagle defenders and
Koetter rambled into the
end zone with 9:38 showing
on the clock. The PAT was
stopped by the Eagles to
count 6-0.
Koetter Ignited the apnrk
for the next acere as he
fielded an Eagle pant at his
own 15 and retoraod It 33
yards to Wlndthorat’a 48.
From
and Tommy Vieth
od Into the line and Randy
Wolf stepped eff a 27 yard
jnant to move the boll to the
Eagle’s 13. A
shy moved the
to the 28, and
the remaining distance to
Randy Wolf skirted
h
The second half was one
that had the Eagle followers
shaking their heads in dis-
belief as twice the Trojans
scored two touchdowns
within the space of one min-
ute.
The first was as a result of
a drive that stalled at ChilH-
cothe’s eight yard line.
Steinberger and Frank Wolf
each broke for Tj yard
gallops to keej, tfce drive
going and Vieth :tad a 13
yard rae m the drive, but on
expensive 15 yard holding
penalty was the catalyst that
foiled the march.
The Eagles could not
muster an offense and when
facing a punting situation,
they had Chuck Veitenhei-
mer block the punt into the
air and right into the arms of
Larry Wolf who caught the
pigskin in the air at the four
only to be halted at the six
inch line. OB Wolf went
over on the first play and
capped an eight point play
with a successful two point
conversion.
There was 2:19 remaining
in the third quarter. With
1:32 still remaining in the
stanza. Vieth scored again
for the Trojans. The defense
again set up the score as
Mike Wilde recovered a
fumble to hand the scoring
opportunity to Windthorst.
Bob Steinberger gathered
in a Wolf PAT aerial to once
again tack eight more points
on the board and up the
count to 30-0.
A Koetter punt runback of
28 yards gave the Trojans
good field position on Eagles
22 yard line as the third
quarter became history. Two
passes lit up the scoreboard
again. The first was to
Steinberger for 12. and the
second was a volleyball play
as the ball ticked off the
hands of Larry Wolf who set
it up right into the hands of
Veitenheimer inthe end zone
and his first TD of the year.
Koetter’s kick split the up-
rights and the 36-0 score still
showed 11:20 remaining in
the game.
Darren Meurer recovered
the ensuing kickoff at the
Eagle 25 and Frank Wolf
and Vieth tore into the line
for three plays with Vieth
getting the scoring honors
with a 4 yard burst and still
10:28 left in the game. Koe-
tter's kick turned the 43 on
the board into a 44.
Koetter concluded the eve-
ning's scoring aa he pilfered
an Eagle aerial at Chflll-
cothe'a 45 and raced unmo-
lested to the promised land
and six points. Koetter then
capped his right’s work with
a perfect placement and the
final 51-zip whltewaahlng for
the Trojans' fifth shutout in
seven games.
John Loran shut off the
only Eagle attack late in the
game as he intercepted a
pass in the end zone and
brought it back to safety for
the Windthorst offense.
Windthorst amassed 286
yards on the ground with
Steinberger, Frank Wolf and
Vieth sharing the brunt of
the infantry attack with 90
yards, 86 steps, and 68
yards respectively. During
the game Windthorst also
led all area teams for the
week as they garnered 152
steps backward due to flying
hanky infractions.
With Wilde, Loran, Veiten-
heimer, Greg and Larry
Wolf, and Butch Schroeder
leading the defensive char-
ge, Windthorst limited the
powerful Eagle running
game to 74 forward steps.
Jake Schenk, Koetter, Vieth,
Steinberger, and Frank Wolf
were instrumental in holding
the passing attack to only 58
yards, most of these coming
late in the game.

Archer City Upsets Callisburg
In Friday Night’s 9-6 Triumph

Archer City is turning the
non-believers into believers!
Last week, the Wildcats up-
set the predictions and came
out on top. This week, they
were predicted to win and
they did just that, edging
on top of Callisburg, 9-6.
Mitch Green was the first
to put points on the board,
early in the fourth quarter.
After a drive for the goal
ended unsuccessfully, Green
booted a 32 yard field goal
for 3 points.
This is the way the score
remained until early in the
fourth quarter. The third
quarter had ended with a 42
yard pass to Bobby Adams
who ran it to the four yard
line. On the very first play
of the 4th quarter, Mike
Aulds followed through,
charging up the middle for a
touchdown.
After that, the Wildcats
took it easy. Perhaps too
easy, because almost as
soon as Callisburg got the
ball, they heaved in for a
touchdown, making the
score 9-6.
With their foes breathing
down their necks’, the Wild-
cats managed to hold them
until the clock ran out, end-
ing the game with a final
score of 9-6.
