DEATH STRIKES SCHOOL NOTES
Mrs. Veva G. Edwards who
resided in the government
housing project here in Howe
died Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in
tbc Madonna Hospital, Deni-
son.
She had been out in her
back yard and seems to have
had some kind of a black-out
for she fell unconcious or
semi-conscious and the child-
ren living next door, Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Lynn’s children
saw her and notified their
parents. Mr. Lynn went to;
her and carried her into her
appartment, from where she
was first taken to her sister’s
home in Van Alstynei, the
next day, Friday, she was
taken to the hospital in Deni-
son where she remained until
her passing Tuesday.
Mrs. Edwards was a widow
and is survived by one dau-
ghter Mrs. Margarett Hooten
one grand-child and five sis-
ters. We do not have their
names. She was a Baptist
and the funeral will be from
the First Baptist Church in
Van Alstyne today, Thursday

Mr. and Mrs. George Cav-
cuder are the proud parents
of a fine girl, born Tuesday.
Mr. M. H. Dutton is still in
the hospital and is reported
not doing too well. Remember
him.
COMMUNITY HOSPITAL—
Mrs. Anna E. Blackburn,
86, had surgery last week and
her condition is reported as
serious.

Mrs. Truitt Davenport re-
viewed the fall study book
“Spanish Dorways’’ for the
Wesleyan Service Guild of the
First Methodist Church Mon-
day night in the home of Mrs.
George Stockton.
The uniqne form of presen-
tation was both inspiring and
challenging.
RAIN GAUGE
The rain guage in the back
yard of the Howe Enterprise
showed at noon Wednesday
3.25 inches of rainfall.

DEMONSTRATION
Mrs. Carol Peters, a home
economist from the Lone Star
Gas Company will present a
Christmas ideas demonstra-
tion Tuesday, November 24.
The demonstration will be
given in the Howe school
homeemaking department at
2:45 n.m. Mrs. King invites
ail who are interested to at-
tend this program.
T. B. TESTS
TB tests were given to all
students of Howe schools who
i ©quested them. This test
was the Heaf test and did not
involve the patch.
BASKETBALL
Howe A & B Teams Top
Sherman
The Howe Girls’ B team
started a successful night
Monday night by defeating
Sherman 39 to 23.
High scorer for Howe was
Mickey Dutton with 17 points.
Betty Scott was next with 12
High for Sherman was Helen
Martin with 10.
Howe A team topped Sher-
man 43 to 24. Elaine Schnei-
der was high scorer with 17
points. Betty Callaway and
Sharon Belden each mad© 13
points. Elaine Locke made 18
points of Sherman’s 24.
In both the games the Howe
girls won on getting the re-
bounde. Neither team hit
30 percent of their shots and
when the ball came back, our
Howe girls got in there and
got it far more often that the
Sherman lassies.
JUNIOR HIGH GIRLS WIN
BOYS DEFEATED
Howe Junior High girl top-
ned Bells Tuesday afternoon
IS to 5, in a scrimmage at
Howe. Jaunita Jones scored
8 points for Howe to become
high scorer. Pam French,
made 4 points for Bells.
The final score in the boys’
game was 8 to 13 Bells. High
scorers for Howe were Mike
Billy and Joe Curtis with 3
points each. High for Bells
wag Layman with 7 points.

COURT
PROCEEDINGS
The Grayson County Com-
missioners’ Court met in reg-
ular session at 10:00 a.m.
Monday, November 9th, 1964
and Tuesday, November 10th
1964.
Bids were taken for the
leasing of the oil and gas
rights on the property known
as the County Farm and Loy
Lake P4ark. Shell Oil Com-
pany leased the Loy Lake
pi operty for $50.00 per acre
for a total amount of $9,528
on 190.56 acres. Pan Ameri-
can Petrolium Corporation
leased the County Farm pro
perty for $£>0.00 per acre for
a total amount of $11,907.00
on 238.14 acres. This is leased
for a five year term.
The Court opened bids on a
typewriter for the County
Court at Law office. Central
Business Machines’ bid of
$378.25 was accepted. The
Court also approved the ex-
pense account of Judge Lestev
Newman for his attendance
at the Condemnation Seminar
in Austin.
Tom McKee, commissioner
Precinct No. 2 was authorized
to procure 6,000 yards of
crushed rock near Tom Bean.
Forrest Griffin, juvenile1
officer, was given authority
to attend the Juvenile Train-
ing School in Austin Novem-
ber 15th through the 18th,
1964.
Mrs. Stanley Hayes, election
judge of Box 53, resigned ner
position. Bill Denhard was
appointed a member of the
Child Welfare Board to re-
place George Shook, who re-
signed.
J. B. Walker, commissioner
teams play Slidell at Howe
Monday night and Tuesdaj'
the girls travel to Sherman
for return games.
BULLDOGS ROLL IN LAST
HALF BUT LOSE 36 -19
S & S outlasted Howe 36 to
19 Friday night. The Rams
ouilt up a 30-0 lead over
Howe’s Bulldogs Friday night
and outlasted the charging
Bulldogs as they surged to
19 points in the last half.
Howe had 11 first downs to
S&S’s 11. Gary Moody scored
all three Howe touchdowns.

SESAME CLUB
The Sesame Study Club met
'Tuesday at the Community
Room of the Howe State Bank
for its annual Thanksgiving
luncheon. The Yearbook Com-
mittee, Mrs. Windle Sproul,
Mrs. Marshall Robertson, Mrs.
C. C. Jones, Mrs. Mary
Hughett, were hostesses.
Rev. W. Dean Spence was
guest speaker and was intro-
duced by Miss Marne Roberts.
Mrs. Charles Thompson,
tne president, had charge of
the brief business session.
Seventeen members and
three guests were present.
The next meeting will be
December 1st with Mrs. A, M.
Ferguson hostess.
Precinct No. 3, made a motion
that road and bridge funds
be divided equally between
til© four precincts. Motion
Wj>s seconded by Otto Wilson,
commissioner of Precinct No.
4. Votes were called for and
Walker and Wilsan voted for
this and Hestand and McGee
voted against. The county
judge' refused to break the
tie stating that funds were
to be allocated as to the
amount of taxes collected in
each precinct and until we
had an accounting there was
no way to determine the ex-
act amount for each precinct.
Also, it is anticipated that
our precincts will have to be
revised so that each precinct
will represent equal number
of population. The Court will
await a test case from Mid-
land before taking further
action.

The Court approved the
official bond of Carl Flanery
who has been appointed
Justice of the Peace to replace
Judge Gaddy who is resigning
November 30, 1964.
Audit of the County Clerk’s
records was received and filed.
George Schumaker, County
Tax Assessor-Collector, re-
quested new lighting system
lor his office. This was grant-
ed; to be done as funds are
made available.
The Court authorized for
advertising for bids for the
blanket bond coverage on
county employees. These bids
are to be opened December
15, 1964, 10:00 am
The Grayson County His-
torical Survey Committee
requested that a medallion be
placed at the Sullivan Home!
in Whitesboro to mark this
historical spot. This request
was ^ granted by the Court,.

CITIZENS
George D. Ward, N. Baurch
Mr. Ward is stationed at the
Highway Patrol Station north
of Howe. They moved here
from Dehison. The family
consists, beside Mr. Ward, as
w:fe and two children. (Sorry
we don’t have their names,)’
They are Baptists.

here from Hurst, Texas. They
