tives. When a Cub Scout is 10
years old he joins The Webe-
los den and works on 15 acti-
vity badges.
Activity badges were earned
by: Jimmy Fagala, outdoors-
man, traveler; James Joines,
outdoorsman; Fred Leonard,
traveler; Scott Mutchler, out-
was required to show he is
prepared in the Tenderfoot re-
quirements for Boy Scouts.
Every boy in the Webelos den
this year received the Arrow
of Light. A very impressive
ceremony was conducted by
Mr. Taylor, Indian Chief and
Mr. Suton, Medicineman and
Archer. Arrows* were shot into
a Cub Scout target for each
boy and the arrow was then
presented to the boy. The Ar-
row of Light badge was pin-
doorsman; Clark Sutton, out- ned on by each boy’s father,
doorsman, scholar, naturalist;
Jerry Taylor, outdoorsman,
scholar, naturalist traveler,
forester; Timmy Tracy, ouF-
doorsman; Tony Wall, ou'-
doorsman geologist, natura-
list; Danny Word, outdoors-
man.
A total of 58 awards were
received by 27 boys during
the evening.

Sutton, Webelos leaders indue
ted ten cubs into the Webelos
den. Webelos colors were pre-
sented to the cub by his par-
ents. New Webelos are: Vince
Bailey, Glen Culp, John
Ham, Bobby Hawkins, James
Lindsey, Harry Leonard, Don
Matthews, Ricky Martin, Noel
The boys then presented their
mothers with an Arrow of
Light pin.

cy were recognized for com-
pleting all steps on the cub-
bing trail: Bobcat, Wolf, Bear
- Webelos activity and Arrow of
Light.
A boy must be 11 years old
before he can join a Boy
Scout Troop. Mr. Sutton re-
moved the Webelos necker-
chiefs of James Jones, Fred
Leonard, Tony Wa7l and Dan-
ny Word and they crossed a
bridge with their parents to
receive their Boy Scout neck-
erchiefs from Mr. Taylor an'*

VAN ALSTYNE - Services
for Elijah Franklin Cole, 86,were
held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in
.he First Methodist Church of
Van Alstyne. Mr. Cole, who op-
erated a hatchery here for ma-
ny years, died Sunday in a Sher-
man hospital. Burial was in
Mesquite under the direction
of Flesher Funeral Home. Revs.
Pete Robertson, Dale Swain,
and M. F. Johnson will conduct
the service.
Mr. Cole was born on Dec.
.3, 1884, the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Ebenezer Cole. He
married Merium Engle on Feb.
|9, 1905 in Mesquite.
He is survived by two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Elizabeth Nioodem-
s of Dallas and Mrs. Frankie
lavender, Howe; two sons, Wil-
liam Travis Cole of Van Al-
ityne and Murray Cole of Hous-
n; nine grandchildren, six
reat - grandchildren and one
at - great - grandchild; and
me brother, Charley Cole of
alias. ,
The family will be at the fu-‘
eral home from 7:30 to 8:30
.m. Monday.

Miss Marie 0. Hanna, 75, re-
tired Telephone Company em-
ploye, died early Thursday in a
Sjherman hospital following an
extended illness..
Services . were held Saturday
at 10:30 a.m. in Dannel Funeral
Chapel with Rev. Fred T. Hall,
pastor of Central Christian
Church, conducting. Burial was
in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born Oct. 21, 1895, at Howe,
Miss Hanna was the daughter of
the late Joseph Barron and Nan-
cy Simmons Hanna. She attend-
ed Howe schools and moved to
Sherman 50 years ago. She was
employed by the Grayson Tele-
phone Co. Feb. 23, 1920. The
company later became North
Texas Telephone Co., then the
Texas Telephone Co. and finally
the General Telephone Co.
Throughout her service with the
company she worked in the traf-
fic department as an operator.
She retired from the company
Dec. 1, 1955.
Through her prompt and alert
attention in pre-dial telephone
days, several burglaries of Sher-
man businesses were prevented
or detected, according to Police
Chief Johnny Burleson.
She was a member of Central
Christian Church, Order of the
Eastern Star, and a member of
the Adult Social Club. Her home
was at 576 Scott Circle.
She is survived by three sis-
ters, Mrs. Estella Bond of Sher-
man, Mrs. Alice Skeen of Howe
and Mrs. Josephine Cullum of
Dallas; three brothers, Z. D.
Hanna of Ventura, Calif., Orren
J. Hanna of Arlington and Ray-
mond Hanna of Dallas; and sev-
eral nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the fu-
neral home Friday from 7:30 to
j9 p.m. and at other times at the
home of Mrs. Estella Bond, 111
W. Moore.
Pallbearers will be Elmer
Warren, Jeff Sutherland, Les
Tribble, Jess Brinkley, Omar
Corbin and Roy Morrison. ,
Boy Scouts. Each boy present-
ed his father with a Boy Scout
pin.
Cubmaster Baird conducted
the business session*. Johnny
Jones, committeeman, present
ed Mrs. Jimmy Sutton with a
plaque of appreciation from
the Pack and Mrs. Joe Mat-
thews presented her a gift
from the den leaders. Mrs.
Sutton has provided capable
leadership for the past three
years.
Mr. Fry explained the sum-
mer program. June 5 is “Na-
tional Keep America Beautiful
Day” and Cub Scouts are a-
vailable to help In any way
they are needed.
A pack picnic has been plan
ned for all Cubs and families
at Fairview Park June 5 at
7:00. July 17th will be Gold
Rush Day and August 14 will
be Olympic Day. These will
be directed by ffieT Texoma
Valley Council. A paper drive
is to be announced later.

Mr. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Sut-
ton, Mrs. Matthews, Mrs. Ned,
Culp, Mrs. Tom Wall, Mrs.
