Assessor-Collector’s Job
In submitting my application
to you, the voters of Grayson
county, for the office of tax
assessor-collector, I am fully
aware of the many duties and
responsibilities involved in the
operation of this important
office of our County and State
Government.
I am confident that my train-
ing and experience with local,
county district and state de-
partments will enhance my
ability to serve the people of
Grayson county as Tax Asses-
sor-Collector and should be
some evidence of my general
qualifications to make you a
good county official.
I am married to the former
Miss Emma D. Marshall. Our
home is on Route 1, Pottsboro,
west of Fink, Texas. We have
two children: Robert Edwin
Jones of Sherman who works
with the Texas Department of
Public Safety, License and
Weight Division; and Dorothy
Jean Smith of Dallas. My
mother, Mary Elizabeth (Aunt
Mollie) Jones who is hale and
hearty and recently celebrated
her one-hundredand first birth-
'day.
I earned a B. S. degree in
East Texas State university;
attended Southern Methodist
university and Texas university
while working towards a Mas-
ter's degree. While in Austin
I served as Chief Clerk of the
Texas House of Representatives
during five regular sessions and
had part time work with the
Tax Division of the State Comp-
troller’s Department arid the
Motor Transportation Division
of the Texas Railroad Com-
mission.
My district work included
public relations and some law
enforcement while working with
the Parks and Wildlife Depart-
ment in this four-county area
of Grayson, Fannin, Hunt and
Collin.
In January 19661 was appoint-
ed by our sheriff’s department
as Court Bailiff for both Dis-
trict and Grayson county courts,
where. I served for more than
four years. In June 1970 I was
appointed as Justice of Peace
and Judge of Small Claims Court
for a newly created court in
the Lake Texoma area of Pre-
cinct 8. I was unopposed for
election in the primaries and
general election.
My work in the Pottsboro
community has been both in-
teresting and rewarding be-
cause it has given me an op-
portunity to work with people
and help with their problems
at the grass roots level.
I dare not pledge to you that
I shall be able to solve all the
problems of our over-burdened
tax payers but I do promise
to work in harmony with all
the elected officials of Grayson
county and will to the best of
my ability conduct the business
of this office in a fair and im-
partial manner. I assure you
that your tax problems, whether
great or small, will at all times
be given due attention.
I therefore respectfully so-
licit your support and influ-
ence for election to the office
of Tax Assessor-Collector of
Grayson County.

the self-cleaning electric range
Join the many women who are taking
so much of the work out of
r mealtime—put a modern,
self-cleaning electric range in charge
of your cooking chores. You can go
shopping on oven-scrubbing day,
because your electric oven cleans
itself automatically. And the surface
units clean themselves every time
you cook on high heat.
Your electric range will remember to
start baking the potatoes at just the
right time, too. You just pre-set it and
forget it. And you’ll like the in-oven
rotisserie, the plate warmer and the
accurate temperature control you can
get with your new electric range.
TP&L suggests that you see your
electric appliance dealer soon—and
put America’s favorite labor-saver
in your kitchen! .
