Penelope News
By Mary Bruegger
Another good friend of
Penelope has died, Mr. Henry
Macik Sr. has been called home
to his Maker. He was a very good
Catholic man who raised a big
family, was a good father to them,
was a good citizen and when he
had to give up farming he took
charge of St. Joseph's Cemetery
and did a very good job. Visitors
were always pleased with the
appearance of the cemetery. He
took pride in what he did and
must have earned a big crown in
Heaven. May he rest in peace.
We regret that Willie Nelson
could not be present to the re-
dedication of the courthouse in
Hillsboro. He did so much to raise
funds to rebuilt it.
Our pastor celebrated his 50th
year as a priest with visitors
from far-away Japan where he
was on assignment for many
years. His local parish honored
him with a program that com-
bined talents of Penelope and
Abbott, his two present parishes.
God bless him.
When Father Jerry Ryan
chose to be a priest 50 years ago,
he must have heeded the words
of St. Augustine. "When I seek
you. O God, it is happiness I
seek. Therefore, for let me seek
you that my soul may live." Fa-
ther Ryan is a wonderful pastor
and we are glad to have him as
our pastor in Penelope and
Abbott.
God bless him.
