The West News - March 14,1985
Kiwanis
News
By Milton C. Morgan
Forty-five Klwanlans and
guests were present for our
March 6 Kiwanis Club and
noon luncheon.
Our guests were three
officers of our West High Key
Club. They were: Amy
Rauschuber, vice-president;
Jeanne Gerik, secretary; and
Tammy Gerik, vice president.
Club vice-president Vince
Incardona, who presided at
our club meeting, reminded
any Kiwanian who did not
contribute $1 for the Kiwanis
International Birthday Fund
could do so at the meeting.
We are trying for 100 percent
participation from our West
Club and if we are successful,
our club will be awarded a K-
patch to go on our new K-
Banner.
Those of us who arrive
early each Wednesday could
help out very much by getting
ice and tea ready by the time
we start eating. Business men
of the West area are
encouraged to get an ad in
the Kiwanis Bass Classic flyer.
Call Larry Zbranek and get
your $10 ad in the flyer. All
prizes for the bass classic are
on display at the State
National Bank in West.
Our program was
presented by Jerry Egeland. a
Park Technician for the
Whitney Project and Aquilla
Dam and Lake Project. Jerry
brought us up to date on this
important project by showing
slides of the new Lake Aquilla
and Dam and what it looks
like today. The elevation of
the lake is 537.5 when full.
Present elevation is 535.
Water is the main purpose of
this project and at its deepest
point, it will be 59 to 60 feet
deep. The lake will be a very
fertile area and a good place
to fish in the future.
Lake Aquilla has been
stocked with Florida bass. By
1986. the lake will have been
stocked with 500 thousand
fish This includes blue and
channel cat. Mr. Egeland said
some reports indicate that the
Florida bass are already 6 to 8
inches long and go 4 to 5
pounds. When completed,
the lake will be 12.000 acres.
It all adds up to a great place
for recreation.
The door prize winner this
week was Larry Sparks.
