SLAP News —
by Connie Kinsel
I'll start with this - not that
it will do any good, since not
even the letters that were
sent out did. But take-out
meals are strictly for shut-
ins. not for those that are
able to come down and eat.
We don't make the rules at
the Center, they come from
Waco, so please try and be
more cooperative. I know
our director would certainly
appreciate it.
Rev. Allen, thanks for the
devotional you gave us.
We have received four
new members in the last 10
days.
Hint. Vinegar will remove
spots from most material
without leaving a ring.
Guess I've mentioned this
before - that we have met
our pledge. All that needs to
be done now is for Edith to
present it to the new Center.
We sure worked hard on it -
every one of our members,
that is most of them, really
got with it.
We are still looking for
someone to lead in our
exercises. We are just asking
for about 20 minutes for a
volunteer. Edith used to do
it but she has so much to do,
she just hasn't had the time.
Twenty minutes is such a
little time for some one to
give. If the people who
always say they are bored or
lonesome would do a little
volunteer work, they would
be in better condition to
meet the challenges of
everyday living.
Know why the chicken
crossed the road? 'Cause
Col. Sanders was coming
down the sidewalk.
Don't forget to put plenty
of wildbird seed and water
out tor the birds. This is a
bad time of the year for
them. Also nuts for the
squirrels. They don’t have to
be fresh and don’t forget our
other wild life friends like the
rabbits, etc. Leftover table
scraps are fine for them.
If your cars need new
inspection stickers, don’t
forget it. This month will be
over with before you know
it.
Also the garden guide has
these listed for January:
spinach, in fact most greens,
turnips, beets, english peas,
carrots, cabbage and onion
plants. Start peppers,
eggplants and tomato
plants.
This has been written
before, but so cute will
repeat. “Middle age has
been described as that
perplexing time of life when
we hear two voices calling
us, one saying ‘Why not?’
and the other saying ‘Why
bother’?.”
If any Senior Citizens are
interested in spending a few
hours with some friendly
people and eating a
delicious meal, come visit us
at West Slap Center. We
won’t let you down. Our
cook is really great those
homemade rolls she makes
are so perfectly shaped and
high, you would think they
were measured. Guess you
can stand a little more
honest flattery, Cookie. The
tasting isn’t bad, either.
To close with, as had
been said before, your
church always has room for
another, so don't forget to
go to the church of your
choice. Keep smiling.
Thanks to Mr. Toby
Pullen for the turkey.
