The West Trojan junior varsity basketball team won three of their last four
games to finish the season with a 10-13 record and 5-9 district mark.
Under the direction of Coach Mark Wunnicke, the Trojan JV beat Whitney
64-42, La Vega 43-40 and Gatesville 72-62 losing only to Marlin 71-65.
The young Trojans jumped to a 36-18 halftime lead enroute to their win over
Whitney. West had a commanding 52-28 lead following three quarters.
Danny Youngs led a balanced Trojan scoring attack with 14 points followed
by Brian Vrba and Chris Pavlicek, 9 points each; Ray Jaska and Tony Kubacak,
7 each; and Tim Lednicky, 6.
In the West team's loss to Marlin, the Trojans rallied from a 55-41 third
quarter deficit to lose only by six points. Youngs headed the West attack with
22 points followed by Vrba with 21 and Pavlicek, 12.
The West JV got off to a slow start in their game against La Vega as they
trailed 8-2 after the first quarter and 20-10 at half. They narrowed the score to
30-23 after three quarters and pulled the game out in the final quarter in taking
the 43-40 victory.
West again received balanced scoring as Pavlicek was the team's high
pointer with 13 followed by Youngs, 11, Vrba, 8, and Dan Walton, 7.
In the season finale, the Trojans led at the end of every quarter. They had a
17-14 first quarter lead and were ahead 36-32 at half. The third quarter found
West ahead 4742.
Youngs netted 25 points to head the West attack followed by teammates
Kubacak, 18, Vrba, 10, and Matthew Eubanks, 10.

Persons wanting to claim an exemption of property from ad valorem
taxes or to have their propety appraised for agricultural use valuation for
the first time for the year of 1990, must file an application for such
exemption or valuation before May 1,1990. Application forms are available
at the McLennan County Appraisal District Office located at 216 North 6th
Street, Waco, Texas, or you may call 752-9864 for an application form to be
mailed to you. Business hours for the Appraisal Office are from 8 a.m. to 5
p.m. Monday through Friday of each week.
Persons who applied for and received a residential homestead exemp-
tion or a disabled veteran exemption for the year of 1989 do not need to file
an application for such exemptions In 1990. The exemption will continue to
be granted until a change in ownership occurs or there Is a change In the
veteran's disability. If a change occurs or the property on which such
exemption was granted is no longer owned, then the person who received
the exemption has a duty to notify the Appraisal District of any such change.
Persons who became 65 years of age or became disabled during calendar
year 1989 must file a new application to receive such additional exemption
for 1990. If a person sixty-five (65) years of age or older dies In a year In
which the person received the homestead exemption, ad valorem taxes
imposed on the homestead for public school purposes may not be in-
creased, (unless new Improvements are made to the residence) while It
remains the resident homestead of that person's surviving spouse, If the
spouse is fifty-five (55) years of age or older at the lime of the person's
death. The surviving spouse must file a new application with the Appraisal
District In order lor the homestead exemption to remain In effect
Properly owners who had their property appraised as open space land
under Chapter 23 of the State Property Tax Code do not need to make an
application for such appraisal in 1990. The land will continue to be ap-
praised at Its productive value until there Is a change of use or ownership.
The owners of such land have a duty to notify the Appraisal District If a
change of use or ownership occurs.
Section 2201 and 22.23 of the State Property Tax Code requires all
persons to render for taxation all tangible personal property used for the
production of Income that they own or manage and control on the first day
of January of each year. Such property should be rendered for taxation at
the Appraisal Dfslrtct Office, 216 North 6th Sheet, Waco, Texas, between
January 1 and April 1 of each year.

Taroky tourney
The first Knights of Columbus
Taroky Tournament, sponsored by
West Council 2305, will be March 31
at the K.C. Hall in West.
Entry fee will be $12 per person
and includes a noon meal. Registra-
tion begins at 8:30 a.m. with play
starting at 9:45 a.m. Kolaches and
coffee will be served during registra-
tion.
The Tournament is open to all in-
terested tarock players, ladies and
gentlemen, 18 years'of age or older,
and limited to 80 players. To assure
yourself a place in the Tournament,
please submit your entry fee, name
and full address to West K. of C., P. O.
Box 50, West, Texas 76691. Entrants
arc asked to have their entry form and
fee turned in on or before March 26.
Trophies and cash prizes will be
awarded to the top four players. Play
(five rounds) will continue for all
players throughout the tournament,
regardless of losses, except for the
final round. The top four players will
compete in the final round for first,
second, third and fourth place honors.

tion, entry blanks, rules, etc. should

Shelly Polansky
Shelly Polansky a fourth grader at
St. Mary’s School has been chosen
student of the month for February.
Shelly is the daughter of Henry and
Shirley Polansky.
Shelly has one brother Mark who
is a sophomore at West High School.
Her favorite subjects at school are
spelling, reading and math. Her favor-
ite hobbies are collecting stickers,
collecting stamps, dancing, practic-
ing her piano lessons, and modeling.
Shelly's best briend is Elissa
Villines. They enjoy spending the
night with each other.
Shelly is a good citizen in the class-
room and is always willing to help
with any project. Her fine attitude and
spirit of cooperation are reflected in
her excellent work.
When Shelly grows up she would
like to become a teacher or a lawyer.
Heather Kllsh
Heather Klish, an eighth grader,
has been chosen by the Student Coun-
cil as student of the month for Febru-
ary. Heather is the daughter of Eemie
and Edward Klish, and she has a
brother Jason and a sister Janna.
Heather has been a Mustang cheer-
leader for two years and has played on
the girls' basketball team. She is cur-
rently serving as Student Council
historian.
English and speech are Heather's
favorite school subjects. She enjoys
being a cheerleader, playing basket-
ball, swimming, shopping and spend-
ing time with friends.
In the future, Heather would like to
attend the University of Texas.
Leslie Nemec
The average American household
watches TV for seven hours and
two minutes a day according to A.C.
Leslie Nemec is the daughter of Nielson reports.
